Many unrelated answers. I'm not talking about people choosing to avoid mainstream, nor selling out, nor it being a cultural thing.

What I'm saying is that no rapper is a poet. No rapper is using thier music to express themself. For example, I'm doing poetry now. I feel that expresses myself because I'm taking a true art form which isn't encouraged for me, and doing it because I enjoy it, and it's something I can do to get thoughts and feelings out for no gain other than that. Show me a rapper who does the same. Who doesent leave a rap comfort zone. Lupe is the closest, but he uses double meanings and vocab, which is just elevating rap, not expressing himself.

Rap isn't poetry, and rap isnt an artform. I'm not talking about rapping, because like singing thats just a style of speech. I mean rap, until someone brings actual poetry to the table, and actually does something for nothing other than their own reasons, rap will never be there.
