In a way, I kind of believe we are all Gods. I believe "God" is just a term for someone that's reached extreme enlightenment and has fully tapped into the power of their brain.
Here's a theory; We're all Gods, trapped in a game. Alot of people are distracted and never come across the information I'm presenting you with. Therefore, they die, and lose the game. They start the cycle over and over again, until they realize how to beat the game. Call it reincarnation, sure.
Once you have the objective of the game down, beating it might be completely harder. But when you beat the game, you die, and are re-born onto another planet, with another game for you to play. Only this time around, you're smarter.
Aliens - could very well have been humans somewhere down the road. They beat the game and were given permission to proceed onto the next level. They interact with Earth to help us "graduate" onto the next level of the game, in a sense. Scientists are reverse engineering saucers that crashed and trying to find out what makes them fly. Hitler's nazi army studied a saucer and created the most sophisticated missiles of their time.
Breakthrough moments like this push the whole human race forward and get us closer to God-ship. The Wright Brothers, space travel, stem cell research...all of these are catalysts that'll enable us to graduate to the "next level"...what's left for us to graduate? I guess learning the mechanics of time and space (time travel type of shit), and then understanding human DNA and trying to break out of the 3RD dimension into a higher dimension...
but that's a whole seperate thread and something I couldn't explain to you guys as well as I explained the power of the mind/self-actualization......
