Nas never tried to be a commercial success like that w/ radio hits. EVERY rapper has to put out a song to get them some sort of a buzz or attention. Maybe Nas did want the big bucks from Oochie Wally but the intent was to get him on TV/radio enough so that people could familiarize themselves with him.

How many times has he tried after that to be a commercial success? Think about it. He put a few songs like Oochie Wally and got his name out, One Mic was more of a real song than anything, & I remember that song being huge when the video came out. Nas Is Like music video was again, not an attempt at making a hit, it was just real rap with a real music video.

What's stopping Nas from hitting up Swizz Beats or Kanye for a catchy ass beat so he can make a hit? Certainly not the money, he has more than enough money to get w/e the fuck he wants from w/e producer, i'm sure.

It's his self respect and loyalty to his fan base to put out the shit HE WANTS and the shit his core fan base wants.
