The capped multis are just a visual cue to help the reader pick up on the rhyme easily. When you start adding internal rhyme and other devices it can become more difficult to follow along, especially if accents or broken multis are creating some confusion. So no, they aren't necessary, but yes, in a medium where the only way to convey your message to a reader is through text it can be beneficial to getting your ideas across clearly.

Ok but why not just use standard bar format then? Someone complained that I "didn't fill in the box all the way". What does that even mean? 8 bars are 8 bars.
