I guess you can say that. The way Sufi Islam interprets the relationship between man and God is totally different from the interpretation from orthodox Islam. In orthodox Islam, God is a transcendent other entity and the goal of life is to serve him so that we may make it to paradise. To the Sufi though, God is essentially our true self, and the goal of life is to bring about the annihilation (fana) of the ego/individual self (nafs) so that we merge into Allah. I find Sufi-ism a lot more beautiful and closer to truth.
