I believe the only way science goes too far is developing things that have the potential to either end us all, or severely inhibit the progress of humanity in one way or another. which I think it already has, some would argue decades ago. It's a premier luxury we haven't seen more lethal combat between nations in recent times.

I would go a step further and suggest that we strictly limit procreation to our "genetic elite," and clone the best of the best. But of course that will never fly.
