Agree about both. UA's problem to some reading back is that we've had several years for someone to come up with, or bite, similar concepts. But when you hear it for the first time, and it's delivered dopely, it hits. That's what's important.
Current events is true, but remember the world's been around a lot longer than the time between 2007 and 2017. While there's endless things to do punches about, the odds of stumbling onto something already said are high unless you are using 2017 exclusive references.
