I agree with Godbody on this one. Whilst on the face of things the forums might seem secondary or less important. The decline of the site showed very much so how important forum activity is. The regular posters were the last ones to leave the site. I think that battling brings people to the site, community (forums, chatbox etc.) is what keeps them here.

I really like this idea though. However I think if it's going to be done it can't be half-baked (like the previous credit store).
