The poll only counts the number of people who voted for you. In actual battle conditions, not all votes are equal. Voting strength is measured in vote power, which can go from 0 to (I think) 6 (or is it 4)? Most people have 2.

What they are saying is that some people with high VP voted for you, which means if this battle was being done in the bracket, you may have won.
