That was hyperbolic to some degree, but it's also true to a degree. I mean you can't write pure shit and get away with it, but in a close battle between two people of similar technical skill level, the one more well liked with more influence and a stronger image will win every time. I'm willing to bet on that.

I'm sure you've seen 'legends' winning battles that are questionable. A voter's expectations before a battle play into how the votes come out. The verses are definitely NOT the end all be all.

And being anonymous would help to a certain degree, but in audio your voice can come out highly unique and quite a few people actually have distinct writing styles as well. Only so much you can do to mediate things.

At the end of the day, voting is all preference. And there are plenty of ways to influence preferences on a site of this size.
