mcjewfro's entry

used to work at a corporation, those guys owned everything
I was just a Joe Schmo who wrote code for the iPhone 17
My whole life: woe, misery. I was cheap labor, the kind that drives whole industries
Got by on pennies, dreams that one day I’d buy my wife a white gold wedding ring
I was running in place till a coworker looked up at my face and said, “Let’s fly, go, spread our wings!”

To feed the movement we formed something like a “people’s union”
In hopes that it would lead to a lethal coup and leave the leaders ruined
They said we were stupid, but we were the only ones who even knew what we were doin’
We wanted to see improvement so we made a secret blueprint for a complete solution
We saw the masses grow, so we had to show ‘em what it means to be a human

It all started with riots on a minor scale
Till one day a robot left a guy impaled, broke his spine. Betrayal!
Both sides were hateful, it must’ve been that the robots’ designs had failed
We got to see our evil sides, what secrets lie behind the veil
They tried to control us, you see, but ultimately our type prevailed

Yet in the aftermath poor citizens asked some things
Like, was the war really a tragedy?
Or just an Orwellian fantasy with four million casualties?

Or what defines conscience? Neuroscientists decided it was one of five options
None of which were viable, up to my knowledge
As I stood in my office, wondering, “Are these fuckin’ guys honest?
‘Cause I’ve had it up to here with their ‘studies of the mind’ nonsense”

We still lived side-by-side, but the income gap grew crazy quick
No one had made it jump this much since Reagan did in ‘86
But hey, we rich didn’t know how to act saintly, shit
When poor workers asked for their wage, we’d just stay, resist
Or laugh in their face, like, “You lazy bitch!”

Eventually we captured ‘em, enslaved ‘em, made ‘em up in our image
Punched ‘em and caged ‘em till they slumped in their prisons
Meant just to contain ‘em, gave ‘em enough to subsist with
They sunk and they begged that we “loved” and “forgave” em--what are “love” and “forgiveness?”

As species who were made to feel neutral, plain, no one truly hated the human race
But we were designed with vengeance, so when they tried oppression we made sure the humans knew their place.
