MMA or Boxing?
Watching poor old James Toney Vs Randy Couture there just made me want to make this thread, again.
MMA has gotten so big in recient years, and boxing has went into somewhat of a decline due to the politics which has become involved. This means that MMA has broken in and became a bigger sport. So, what do you prefer? |
To me, boixng is still much more entertaining. I will just show you the last two full events I have watched in boxing and MMA, and I think it sums up why I prefer boxing:-
Mike Jones V Irving Garcia KO 5 Antwone Smith V Lanardo Tyner TKO 9 Kevin Carmody V Ryan Belasco UD 6 Walter Edwards V Anthony Smith TKO 2 Miguel Corcino V Epifanio Cosme Rodriguez TKO 1 Nate Diaz V Marcus Davis SUB 3 Kenny Florian V Gray Maynard UD 3 Demian Maia V Mario Miranda UD 3 Randy Couture V James Toney SUB 1 Frankie Edgar (c) vs. B.J. Penn *STOPPED WATCHING* The boxing event had one decision, and both early and late KOs, and this was a small enough event. The UFC event had two decisions, two submissions (one unimpressive by Couture) and whatever will happen in the Penn fight. I watch this stuff for KOs. I feel that MMA has too much grappling, clinching and fear of being hit in the fighters (rightfully due to practically bare knuckle fighting). There isn't enough stand up punch for punch action, which I find more entertaining than gaining a more advantagous position on the ground. That's just me though. I have boxing in my blood, and although as a sport I'd prefer to do MMA, I think Boxing is more entertaining to watch. |
Frank Edgar and B.J. Penn UD 5
25 Minutes, no KOs or Submissions. Awesome! |
Boxing. Boxing is just some much more joyful to watch. It is original, and never gets old. But again, it is opinionated.

In defence of MMA though, you get to see what you want. Those guys don't have characters as much, which is definently a good thing. Boxing benefited years ago from having your Ali's and Tyson's, but now we have Mayweather afraid of his own record, and the Klitsckhos hiding from David Haye. There should be some sort of way to force them to fight, and have regulation deals or something lol. MMA has the big fights when they are called for.

Also, there is so much more of a prospect feeling in boxing. I have like 20 names written in my phone of boxer who have impressed me enough for me to follow them and watch them when I can. Antwone Smith, Felix Diaz, Mike Jones, Josef Elegele, David Lemiuex etc. I could never do that with MMA.
