The definition of a phobia is a fear of something.

I’m pretty sure that most people that are called homophobic aren’t scared of gay people. They just don’t like them .

I think if a dude's constantly thinking about other people being gay and how it sickens him, then he's probably gay and he's disgusted about himself.

The real meaning of what is called homophobia is disliking homosexuals and homosexuality. Homophobes often have a fear of homosexuals and homosexuality in addition to dislike, but that is not a necessary condition to be "homophobic." Therefore, "homophobia" is a misnomer.
