Has science gone too far?

Discuss.

How can science go too far?

Depends on what you think the meaning of science is.

Nerdism 09-25-2017 05:47 AM

Certain things have, but some good some bad really

I think science is putting effort into the wrong things sometimes....Im sure there's more constructive ways people can use their intelligence and money than to come up with another boner pill or a way to put dog ears on someone while they take a picture.

then again, this is the same society where a government spent millions of dollars to determine if Tom Brady knowingly deflated a football....the whole world is fucked.

Listen, until I have a sex robot that looks like Scarlett Johansson then science needs to keep fuckin plugging away. Like, what's taking so long? I'd be willing to put a solar panel on the back of her head. I'm all for renewable energy. Maybe even a little turbine in her pucker hole that spins when I spunk off. I'd give back to the grid. I could single handedly restore power to Puerto Rico. Fuckin he'll science. Keep up.

Depends on how you look at it, because what you just described is the entire point of our capitalist society. Maybe other than the tom brady thing. I'm willing to bet money for every dog ear app or boner pill you can find there are new technologies coming up or horizons being bridged in medicine. You honestly can't expect average americans to cut out hedonism, it's never gonna happen. Middle class people spend about 50% of their cash on luxuries, wealthy 60%, poor 40%. So hedonism is a far bigger part of American Society than you'd think.

Also, the average american isn't all too intelligent (and most people actively live inside of a dunning-Kruger self-circlejerk so me, or whoever is reading this will likely fit into that average category) so before you could ever get slightly close to having everyday americans start researching cancer instead of developing dick pills for a quick cash-grab- you'd have to have some type of system (perhaps a part of school) implementing those values in people who haven't grasped them.

Science itself is just a means of looking at the world. It's not good or bad until someone uses it to do something good or bad. I suppose what I mean is: have some areas of scientific research gone too far?

I'm fairly sure that the answer is yes, although we won't know it until some drunken biology grad student trips and breaks the Petri dish full of a supervirus that turns your organs into liquid shit. Or something like that.

In any case, the real problem is humans misusing it. It's like giving a gun to a toddler.

I think a more honed in topic that can serve as an avatar for this question is CRISPR, I've seen many people act like the ability to (among other things) genetically alter people or babies as to reduce or eliminate chances of certain diseases is playing god, and "science going too far."

I believe the only way science goes too far is developing things that have the potential to either end us all, or severely inhibit the progress of humanity in one way or another. which I think it already has, some would argue decades ago. It's a premier luxury we haven't seen more lethal combat between nations in recent times.

Well we've basically eradicated Darwinism in the human species which is no bueno for evolution so now were modifying the human genome to make up for it. Makes perfect sense. I say science has gone just far enough.
