SMACK/URL battles on BET with Bow Wow

http://www.battlefix.com/2013/07/18/...estyle-friday/

WATCH ULTIMATE FREESTYLE FRIDAY LIVE ON TELEVISION EVERY FRIDAY FOR THE NEXT SIX WEEKS AND SUPPORT THE CULTURE: HIGHER RATINGS MEANS THE EXECS WILL POTENTIALLY COMMISSION MORE SHOWS.

The first battle dropped last night on 106; Ill Will vs Danja Zone. They're running a tourney for Ultimate Freestyle Friday, last man standing joint, every Friday. Next weeks is Real Deal vs Young Kannon; although these are decent battlers I'm hoping for one or two of the bigger names from URL to make a firmer impression on the audience at home and let them know what it's really about (Ayeverb, Hitman, Surf, Hollow, Conceited etc). Showcase the best to really capture the audience.

EDIT: I see they've got actually cypher sessions featuring some of the above names in each episode.

SMACK and Bow Wow hosting. Personally I didn't think it was a great first battle to drop but it wasn't terrible.

Also, it's the fire time URL/Smack battles are being officially judged (corny as fuck on crowd reaction but judged nonetheless).

Just read the battlers in the 8 man tourney:

Ill Will (progressed)
Danja Zone (defeated)
Tone Montana
Real Deal
Lottazay
M Ciddy
Sco
Young Kannon

A pretty tight line up but no BIG URL names. I'm wondering if they're maybe waiting to see how it takes off before they jump into it. Or saving the bigger names for a bigger televised event after the initial tourney.

That's pretty dope! I tried searching for the clip, but couldn't find it. Maybe they haven't put it out yet?

I think its a good move though. Some people might see it as selling out, but to me, its creating another avenue where aspiring rappers can make it on the mainstream. Everybody is not going to be a major label recording artist. The ones that are more battle oriented can still make it in the mainstream somewhat outside of youtube videos if this takes off. Plus eventually, there will probably be more money involved and more opportunities for the battlers.

Yeah it's def AGL. You've got battlers like Diz for example making his living from battling (and living well); it's a matter of time before this REALLY takes off to the level of labels and executives (or at least to MORE full time battlers). I'm predicting in the next couple of years there'll be A&R's to sign battle rappers specifically; not to make music, but to battle. If it carries on elevating as it had been of course.

THIS IS HAS SO LITTLE POTENTIAL BECUZ OF THE WAY THEY SET IT UP .. W/E THO DONE WITH THIS

NOBLE 07-20-2013 08:46 AM

Only thing I didn't like about the way it was set up was the making noise to select the winner. There should at least be judges who eliminate them like a reality show. If not that, then they should ask the audience to call in, hit facebook or twitter and vote....which would be even more engaging, but the show would have to be taped live for them to do that. With all the cussing and probable choking and slips, it might not be feasible for them to do it live, plus they don't know yet how the tv audience will receive it. But what do I know? i ain't no TV exec.
