Lets not forget AZ coulda been had fame and money but chose to educate and drop knowlege. Dude CHOSE to go from a major to independent and he owns his own publishing. Owning your own publishing is a big fuckin deal if you know anything about it

I actually took college level courses in poetry where we analyzed certain aspects of poetry and wrote research papers comparing the structure of one poem to another from different time periods

in fact if I gave you an AZ verse to break down you couldn't find half the shit in his verse structure-wise. & this doesn't only go for AZ in case you think i'ma "groupie" there's other rappers that I can present you verses from and you'd sit there with a thumb in your ass trying to pick apart verses

all these years and not once has he tried that commercial route. this nigga didnt go find God and come back spittin bullshit. didnt retire and come back to the game..none of that bitchassness thats prevalent in the game. never had to make a dance or make songs with whoevers poppin for a buzz

he's in a good space musically and continues to spit that raw shit thats missing in the game...and yeah it doesnt take 10 years to make an album but he said he wanted to make it perfect...you know artists can record 50 songs for an album and only 15 make the cut? this nigga probably has scrap tracks and verses left and right. pay attention to his albums and you'll see that he never falls off. never had a wack verse. and he gets better album after album

theres no AZ fan club that i run. none of that bullshit. I just respect his consistency over a large body of work over a long period of time. i couldn't say the same about people like Nas, Em, or Jay-Z...who bar for bar have never been as consistent as A

i see the point you're making but its not even like AZ makes those kind of songs that make you wanna cry...he's more of a street rapper... think Nas with more rhymes, or a much more sophisticated Jadakiss. and i don't think it goes against being a musician at all to not conform to what others wanna hear

you gotta remember guys like Eminem & AZ came on the scene when Hip-Hop was still Hip-Hop. Even you've got to admit that Hip-Hop is so big and commercial that's its leaning towards Pop. Even Eminem fucked around and experimented with some catchy commercial joints in his past few albums

the fact that AZ never felt the need to do anything like that & he sticks to the Hip-Hop he knows when he entered the game shows a great deal of self respect, dignity, and maturity.
