After dealing with that bullshit first hand, judging upon those shows, some of its legit but a lot of its fabricated with mass amounts of exaggeration to scare the kids. Its a smart way of appraoching them though if you think about it. It scares them straight as intended.

I think its good what they are doing though, keep the youth on the right path.
