I know I am posting this on the text side, but two lines do NOT equal a bar...
How this can even be debated is beyond me.
I never understood it. Anyone who has ever recorded knows this isn't possible, so why do textcees seem to think different? |
who cares - everyone writes differently...as long as you can fit it in a verse, doesnt matter how many "bars" there are
|
I care.
It really crisps my bagels when I see people post "64 Bars / 32 lines" It's incorrect. |
It's all in the writer. I agree, comare a Joell Ortiz or a Vinnie Paz to El-P or Aesop Rock. Joell could easily fit that 2:1 format (ex. Joell "Battle Cry"/ Juice "Heat") whereas El-P has some work with 1:1 bar to line (ex. Both "Delorean" or Aesop "Citronella"). Structure is in the eye of the writer.

bars arent the real problem..the problem lies within the bars - in the form of syllables...ppl dont kno how to count syllables and try to jam as much as they can (and sometimes the opposite - which is worse) into a line/verse
we need to go back to the basics |
it really doesnt matter. its already been stated, it depends on the writer. if everyone followed the same line to bar ratio then you would have a bunch of chumps that sound alike, (ex. 90% of rappers on the radio 2chains, waka, gucci, jucie mane, soulja boy, etc...) all of them sound alike and pretty much have the same scheme "rhyme this word with that word and call it music"
i personally like to rap fast so i can fit more shit into a line, where some who rap slower dont put as much in their lines. it all has to do with your style, your content, your vocabulary, and all around skill. |
If It Flows, Why Not?

What is a bar, then, Baron Mynd?
|
4 beats
Shit always puzzled me too ... If anything 16 bars should be 32 lines |
Latest Symptoms... That, to me, was four beats. Is it then a bar?
