American References/Slang
with such a mixed international crowd of folks on the site....it dawned on me...some slang or references that are specific to America might go over some people's heads...

Dude, English people can only understand 12% of what FAME says lol.

I just had an american kid tell me it was a specifically Cali slang term to call a piece a 'Llama'. I don't think that's necessarily so...but idk...maybe.
With references, a lot are very region specific... every rapper in California has written at least one Mac Dre punchline or reference. The only weird slang I see Brits use is my friends in real life with the rhyming slang shit. |

southern california has a lot of slang of its own but when it comes to the "i don't know wtf this man just said" kind of slang, thats bay area/oakland kind of shit |
Why Do You Faggits (Grizz) Use Sport Slangs That Everyone Gets Hyped Up About Although They Are Bullcrap And Suck Honky Balls

Also though, a point i made to phroxen.. There's only about 10 active UK members on here, we can't use any British slang because of the 10000s of Americans so we don't, so we kind of have to learn 'American' so to speak. A lot of the time i don't know wtf somebody is talking about... When it comes to TV shows, sports, celebrities that are specific to America. I try not to vote if i really don't have a clue. But if an American didn't understand a British verse... the majority of you would vote against the Brit for not understanding, without a second thought. Been the same for years, in a way it's fair i guess... |
fuckin right its fair, hip hop culture is rooted in american culture
so thats a battle you will lose, erytime ---------- Post added at 08:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:09 AM ---------- but then again look at massive attack. dudes created a whole new style of hip hop (trip hop) and when asked about it, they said they were just trying to recreate american hip hop and failed |
After watching the Don't Flop battles, and having English friends ... I understand a lot more of the weird shit then I used to.
I think it's the same thing for Brits watching American battles like GT or Americanized battles like KOTD..... |
