Are we even hip hop/rap fans?

http://www.the-top-tens.com/lists/be...f-all-time.asp

Really, just read this list, it's actually hilarious. Funniest to me is that Eminem is at 36% over Tupac at 18%, but enough people actually voted Lil Wayne top 3, 50 Cent at number 6 and shit. John Cena has more votes than Chuck D, Kool G Rap, Rakim etc. It's just hilarious.

Louie Dawgs 04-05-2011 04:35 PM

I never realized Lloyd Banks was such a great emcee.

Revan 04-05-2011 04:38 PM

Banks's mixtapes are reaaaaally dope.

But yeah that list sucks majorly./

UnEtHıCaL 04-05-2011 04:43 PM

The thing is aswell, it's been up for years as I remember it in like 08. Sites like this are more inclined to go deeper into hip hop and notice the lyrical side of it, but hip hop is not just about that. It is still a music industry at the end of the day, and there are lots and lots of people voting on this. That means more people into this hip hop music industry like these rappers above the rappers we like. It's the same industry. Therefore, by the numbers, Lil Wayne is a better rapper than Mos Def, Rakim, Talib, Slug, Kool G etc. etc. Fucking sad aint it?

Krhyme Killz 04-05-2011 06:00 PM

Lloyd Banks is garbage...and 'Pac has been dead for 15 years...why would he garner the votes from the typical 14 year old?

GRizzEAT 04-05-2011 06:23 PM

Ma first tx battle on l.b. > this list.

i mean respect to Bone but????
i mean 50 n banks...???

from tha names on tha list jay, nas, pac, n big not all bein top 5.

Man, Killz killed it. tha game is goin to die because of tha LACK OF KNOWLEDGE thats bein passed down to younger generations. U can tell ba tha comments that these are suburben kids that lissen to WOW, THATS WHAT I CALL MUZIK informercials n recite wayne rock n rolls songs in A minor all day. Wiz up america. pff

Vandahl 04-05-2011 07:34 PM

Eminem > Tupac. Eminem is definitely more versatile and lyrically inclined than Tupac.. Don't be stupid Eth.

Krhyme Killz 04-05-2011 07:48 PM

Pac>Em
how the fuck is Em more versatile? lol...even Em would say he wasnt as dope as Pac

Anth3m 04-05-2011 07:55 PM

We're not hip hop fans. The meta game oriented rhyme scheme and punch style doesn't flow on a beat in its purest form. Its a battle rap, not hip hop.
Busta Rhymes.

Erupt da Monsta 04-05-2011 08:57 PM

em is the greatest.. brought.. i mean brings flow punches multis skemes enjoyability.. and record sales.. sold how many records.....
he has for a decade ... shits on any rapper u put next to him lyrically... album sales or flow in general..
plus all the 14 year olds still like em... some 15 year old kid walked into finish line yesterday bumpin im sorry mama.. she got the high five . nuff said

UnEtHıCaL 04-05-2011 09:01 PM

I do agree a little with Jason aswell though. I can't complain about rappers not being lyrically good, I mean I'm westside for life with music, and most of it is children's rapping.

It's also not a "lack of knowledge". Lil Wayne is lyrically a better rapper than Eazy E, although I have Lil Wayne perhaps bottom of everyone and Eazy E at number 2.

What I meant here was that we all have our favourites, being a "rap" website we would be inclined to go with the most lyrically skilled rappers. I dont consider westcoast gangster rap really rap music as it's the music I listen to over the words. In terms of rap, we usually go for NaS, 2Pac, Eminem, Biggie, Rakim, Kool G etc.

But we dont have many current rap fans here in comparrison, and this poll had everyone. It shows that more people like Lil Wayne and think he is superior in hip hop to Rakim for example, and to me and most of you, it's so hard to evern imagine.#

UnEtHıCaL 04-05-2011 09:07 PM

Eminem is a very good rapper, but as I always say, his music to me is boring. Relapse + Recovery, well the names speak for the albums. They are dark beats about non-descriptive "problems" for the wannabe troubled kids of today to listen to and think "Hey, I relate because my mom and dad faught last week". These days, Eminem spits either that, or stupid pop songs. In the old days, he did punchlines (no place in rap for me) or songs that I just flat out never liked to listen to. Stan + Lose Yourself are two of the greatest rap songs of all time in my opinion though.

2Pac on the other hand, was much more versatile. To me, he covers any mood to listen to music.
Sentimental - Keep Your Head Up, Baby Dont Cry, How Long Will They Mourne Me...
Thugging - Troublesome, Hit Em Up, Hell For A Hustler...
Chilling - California Love, To Live and Die In LA, N.I.G.G.A...
Political - Changes, Letter to the President...

Obviously loads more of each too.

Erupt da Monsta 04-05-2011 09:19 PM

its all based on opinion.. whos the greatest. hard tah compare the two.. in order tah do so ud have tah judge them by categories..

flow
multis
enjoyability
album sales
longgevity
influence
versatility

only way to determine a winner imo...

still its opinionated... but thats the formula id use... and with that formula em wins pacs close because of the influence factor along with big and jay.... lil wayne and drake wouldnt come close.

UnEtHıCaL 04-05-2011 09:22 PM

That's 4-3 to Eminem on your formula, but on a technicality...2pac DID die lmao.

Erupt da Monsta 04-05-2011 09:43 PM

lol yeah... not funny... but r.i.p tah tha big homie.

Student 04-05-2011 10:22 PM

Co-Fucking-Sign With Jason.
All In All Everyone Likes Different Types Of Music Depending On Their Life Experiences And What Mood Their In, Like Today I'm Feeling Drake But Tomorrow I Might Like Some Bach, Changes.

UnEtHıCaL 04-05-2011 10:53 PM

Anyone else hate the whole "It's all opinion" answers you get when the question "Who is the best at ____" is asked?

Student 04-06-2011 02:43 AM

If I Didn't Post This Post Right Now This Thread Would've Died...

Erupt da Monsta 04-06-2011 06:48 AM

yeah the opinion shit gets old. but at tha end of tha day not everybody likes the same shit.. some of yall might like country.. some of yall might like classical jazz.. some of yall gotta soft side and like blue grass and some of yall like to think u hard and bump rap and others like how drakes voice sounds... take student for example..

its all apples and oranges at the end of the day.. my moms fucks wit reasonable doubt and ur moms might say its devil music.

simple really.

SoupErb 04-06-2011 07:11 AM

Lmaooo @ whoever said Em>Tupac ... Nah son, Em is a BEASTTTT but Tupac was something else, no one could match his abilities.

Vandahl 04-06-2011 07:35 AM

I phrased what I said incorrectly haha..I can relate to his lyrics a lot more than I can relate to Tupac's. I admit, Tupac was great on so many levels that Em wasn't, and I listen to him quite a bit, but Em is also on levels Tupac could/would never touch as well, and by my preference, I'd prefer to listen to Eminem. Not taking anything away from Tupac, he was great as many other artists were..Fuck, I hate comparing artists to be honest..

Nah i understand what you saying.

Like, Eminem doesn't have a permanent style imo. He switches it up so much, he's so versatile; Tupac could also switch his style alot, but Eminem has like over 15 different ways of rappin.

Yes... Eminem is on similar levels to Tupac, but still: Tupac>Em

SoupErb 04-06-2011 07:45 AM

Oh ...

Tupac made MILLIONS of people believe that he was somehow gonna rise from the dead in 2014 with his 7 Day Theory shit...

Tupac was literally a Genious. No Doubt.

I said they're on different levels, in different areas, not on similar levels, because they are on a different spectrums of dope.. Meaning they both have unique styles..and with that being sad. I don't really feel like comparing the two. You like Tupac more, I like Eminem more..In the end they're both dope... nuff said :high:

*Yes, different is redundant as fuck, but you get the point..

And yeah, music is about making money!.. Right on the spot bud.

I fucks with this^

My preference is Pac but both deffly excelled in areas the other couldnt.

All Ey3 Killer 04-06-2011 08:03 AM

I love Both of em Tupac as well as Eminem...Both are fucking Dope

Vandahl 04-06-2011 08:09 AM

Shit, tomorrow I could enjoy Tupac more than I do Eminem, but lately I've been on that fuck shit, kill a bitch, and stab a professor with a lead pencil type shit....and I'm not tryna apologize to my momma or show love, compassion, or mercy to anyone..Haha, okay maybe I'm exaggerating..but I'm just going through some rough times, and Eminem's lyrics relate to me in ways that remind me of how I've been thinking since I've been stressed and fed up. Forreal though, fuck bills. Haha.

All Ey3 Killer 04-06-2011 08:24 AM

Efficient : Eminem means allot to me in my life...His song esp his Movie : 8 Mile has a Deep influence on me...He's Lyrically Talent and Intellectual....And equally I've deep respect to Tupac too....To be true He's like A Legend to West Side Fellaz...Everybody Pays a Deep Homage to him and so do I...But Theres Equal respect to both...Both of em are most prominent rappers in HipHop/Rap

Spooky|Deep 04-06-2011 08:31 AM

All Ey3 Killer 04-06-2011 08:52 AM

many people place wayne, drake, etc over people like 2pac because their music is simply more enjoyable to the ears alot of the time .. let people who let wayne like wayne and people who like pac like pac

who gives a fuck if 2pac is "REAL hip hop" .. the important thing to the majority of music listeners is how much they can enjoy a song while riding to the store in the car .. not how many multies, metaphors, and "deep lyrics" they can pack into a song.

for most people Drake > Pac .. because he pumps out records that meet their needs.

2pac died 15 years ago .. to compare artists NOW to rappers from pacs day is ridiculous .. music changes and evolves like anything else .. pac would be a garbage rapper in todays world .. he doesnt make music that people want to hear.
and i think thats the best part about it all .. if we ONLY enjoyed artists like big.. pac .. pun .. we'd have like 15 albums that are considered "good music" in the world .. music is a fad .. like clothes.. piercings .. tats ... anything .. it changes over time .. thats the beauty of it .. the guys that are good today will suck in 2 years .. it keeps things fresh and orginal .. id fucking kill myself if i had to listen to "all eyes on me" and "juicy" for the rest of my life

I Agree Wid Jason

Godbody 04-06-2011 10:21 AM

who gives a fuck about Eminem?

you guys need to dust off your Walkman and pop in that Stillmatic CD, assuming you had it in the first place.

or bump some classic Pac shit...

UnEtHıCaL 04-06-2011 12:10 PM

I understand how Eminem is easier to relate to. People get in slumps and his music revolves around that. But in my opinion, if I'm in a bad place, the last thing I want to do is listen to Eminem tell me about how he is in a bad place too.

I prefer Tupac and Wescoast music, because it goes to my favourite sort of time. You can't really play Eminem when you are relaxing in the sunshine, blunt of weed and ice cold bottles of bud, and that is pretty much everything westcoast music is about. You guys might prefer to be hyped and listening to relatable life problems, but to me I prefer relaxing and letting all the annoying shit go away.

I'm also happy today because after 4 months I finally got my welfare moving, awesoooome.

Erupt da Monsta 04-06-2011 04:58 PM

this whole thread is opinions

Erupt da Monsta 04-06-2011 04:59 PM

eminem>nas

Krhyme Killz 04-06-2011 05:45 PM

yo Eminem could never fuck with NaS, Jay, BIG, Pac and others...

'Rupt....that story about shorty at Finish Line is cool...but damn...people are literally still bumping shit that Pac considered a throw away verse 15 years after he was gone...like its like if you have a word doc with some shit you wrote and didnt fuck with it..and after you die people STILL want to hear that...FIFTEEN YEARS LATER!!

its no contest...BIG, Pac, Jay, and NaS at the bare minimum are nicer than Em overall

UnEtHıCaL 04-06-2011 06:33 PM

Pac featured on Outlawz' Still I Rise on maybe every song. Each verse pretty much a throwaway. I think that album is better than any from Wu, D-12, Onyx, Dipset or any other rap group.

NaS and Eminem is a great debate to me. Emienem edges it lyrically but NaS wins it in creativity and origionality. To me NaS wins in two cats though, 1. Consistancy and 2. Opinion. NaS still drops the same level of raps as he did back in the day. Play someone a lesser known song they havent heard from illmatic and likewise from the untitled album or whatever its called, they will struggle to pick which one is which.

Smh, nobody said anything about playing eminem in the sunshine, homo. I was just saying I like Eminem better, if I was relaxing it'd probably be some other shit anyways..definitely not eminem. But it wouldn't be tupac either haha.

Nas was consistent when he first started, but I think he kinda slowly fell off..Eminem was consistent from slim shady lp till eminem show...then fell of..came back with relapse and recovery.. a revamped, sober, matured version of Eminem..with some pretty dope shit..I mean, I like Nas..and think he's one of the best..but consistency is pretty close..and originality? How was Eminem not more/evenly original? He is like the epitome of what people never wanted a whiteboy to have in the hiphop game..haha think about it. Pretty big shoes to fill with all the shit he went through, but I mean he kept real through all of that..he was pretty creative..but Idk, I agree that Nas was more creative, I like a lot of his concepts..rewind, i gave you power, etc..
