Shit on every mainstream rapper alive? Just wondering.

Distant Relatives..... Best Album of 2010
Ether..... Best Diss Track Ever
A Fucking Amazing Ability To Flow And Tell Stories....
Need more reasons?

Krhyme Killz 01-18-2011 06:28 PM

How I Got Over just edged that Distant Reletives joint to me...

and Ether is up there, but there are alot of hot ones..

that being said, I think only BIG was nicer than NaS.

Is How I Got Over, the Roots shit? I thought it had a couple of good tracks.

Dear God, Right On, and that John Legend shit.

But, Black Thought isn't that lyrically gifted. Alot of the rhymes he has are shit i've been heard or are recycled.

edit; wait before you jump on me for saying he's not that lyrically gifted..I meant to say...AS OF LATE, his lyrics aren't up to par with what I expected. but he murdered Dear God 2.0

Godbody 01-18-2011 06:34 PM

Oh wait, you're talking about How I Got Over edging Distant Relatives in 2010? Yeah, I agree with that. but I wouldn't put Roots > Nas.

And also, I don't like B.I.G. I think he was very very overrated and for him to even be considered Top 10 is just foolish. But that's just my opinion.

He made good hits, he had solid rhymes.. No doubt he had skill. But nowhere in the league of rappers that I consider to be legendary. To me its

"bad"
"good"
"great"
"legendary"

Biggie is at like...Great.

Jack-0-Lantern 01-18-2011 06:41 PM

Pulse, your triple posting with no response is an obvious indication that no one gives a fuck what you think.

Krhyme Killz 01-18-2011 06:42 PM

wow @ pULSe....i respect your opinion, but thats crazy...to me...Thought is THE most underrated rapper of all time (maybe with Pharoahe Monch) and BIG....not a legend?

damn Paterson NJ people...lol...always hating on the city

Your inability to properly count how many posts I made before someone responded is an obvious indication that you live in a 3rd world country or have a trailer trash mother that can't afford a decent education for her only misfit-failure of a son because she spends her prostitution money on methamphetamines.

Well that's the mainstream rappers of today.

Nas came out when music was real. He sees that hip hop is dead. Even nas himself is not as hot as he use to be.

Why is this? Cuz hip hop has lost it's soul and its hunger and it is up to the new generation to fix that. Those who are 20+ they have already lost it. Sorry to say but you will not be like what is about to happen in 2012. (I predicted a long time ago (6 years ago) that a new wave of real artist will come up out that slums on this earth. They will disguise themselves as kids but they are actually gods to this rap game. They will be around 15-19 years of age.)

Sorry, Pulse, but an edit to add a complete thought is a post, my friend.

PARYMADA 01-18-2011 06:58 PM

maybe cus he's not really mainstream. he's big but not mainstream, mainstream means ur content is mainstream.

nas brings horror like board of ouji

1DollarShort 01-18-2011 07:38 PM

lol...

NaS is legendary.
BIG is legendary.
Tupac is legendary.
Eminem is legendary.

Their all mainstream (known across the world)

So... what would Lupe Fiasco be? In my opinion; Legendary.

But not many people know of Lupe, and I would think giving someone the Status of 'Legendary', would mean they are VERY popular.

You contradicted yourself...Because you just admitted that it was an edit to add a complete thought, and not a post.

See a post would increase my post count. THIS is a post.

lol @ King John hating

& -SoupErb- I don't think BIG was legendary, but I do think Lupe's lyrics are better than BIG's. So I would put Lupe somewhere between great/legendary if not legendary.

And these are imaginary ranks that I used for arguments sake. I know legendary usually means popular but I was in a rush & in the sense that I used it, I meant for it to mean a VERY GREAT rapper.

Naw, just never got the reason for all the hype around Nas, his first album was a classic but since then he hasn't put out anything that would constitute Legend status. Jay Z>>>>Nas

@pULSe..

Without opinions, the world would be oh so boring. I can respect yours; Because although BIG is seen as legendary... What impact did he have on people besides giving them dreams to have what he had? ... Money, Cars and bitches. Tupac on the other hand is LEGENDARY, he told stories that people could relate to (like Eminem).

@King John..

Damn, your so ignorant. NaS > Jay Z

Jay Z is what Nas wished he could be, there's a reason Jay Z is one of the most influential, recognizable, and respected rappers of all time, he's the most versatile rapper ever and his music actually sells.

Krhyme Killz 01-18-2011 08:35 PM

NaS is what Jay has ALWAYS wanted to be...he's a legit intellectual trapped in a commercial rapper's steez...he sold his soul on Vol 1. and never looked back until maybe American Gangsta which was really lyrically textured

More like Nas wanted to be a commercially successful rapper like Jay Z, but nobody bought his albums even when he tried to put out radio friendly songs. "Oochie Wally," was his top charting track and it was garbage, he even makes controversial album names in an attempt to create some buzz with "Hip Hop is Dead," and his "Untitled," album was gonna be called Nigger. Nas is nowhere near as versatile as Jay Z, Jay can spit lyrical shit with the best of them when he needs to, but he can make a hit and sell a million units too.

tbh, Jay-Z wants to be Nas. No, he doesn't wanna trade lives or his financial situation, I'm sure Jay-Z feels like he's way better off than Nas.

But Nas is respected by everyone. The underground heads, new guys, and veterans will mention Nas before they even think about mentioning Jay-Z.

Nas is living comfortably. He's one of those rappers that's mainstream and making over $200,000/month..yeah, a month. I'm sure if he does something wrong, it wont catch as much media attention as Jay-Z...I bet he walks out of his house & into the club... and only faces 10 paparazzi, versus the 50 paparazzi Jay-Z faces.

That's the lifestyle I wish I had. I'd rather live hella comfortable, with alot of money, and not too much fame. & The respect of everyone to ever pick up that mic, and the respect I have for myself knowing I can put out the music I WANT, with the messages I WANT

& Not these jingles that society craves..that has Jay-Z dancing like a slave to consistently make the MILLIONS of dollars he makes every year.

when did album sales become a sign of versatility?

i mean i know you like Scarface, right? Solja Boy will prolly sell more albums than him...so leave sales out of it.

If I Ruled the World is much more commercially viable than Oochie Wally, as is One Mic. Both of which did NOT sell out artistically...and Oochie Wally was on a QB compilation album...not a NaS album

The large majority of any hip hop lists always puts Jay-Z above Nas, and every new rapper coming out says Jay-Z is the rapper they modeled there game after, not to mention Nas would be irrelevant if it wasn't for his beef with Jay-Z.

Being able to make to make a hit is a pretty big sign of being versatile, that's why Scarface and Soulja Boy aren't on anybody's best ever list, because they can't be commercially successful and still put out lyrical shit. Same with Nas sure he can put out some bullshit "lyrical," track but he can't make a hit to save his life.

Thats bullshit.

NaS is obviously staying in his comfort zone. I think if he REALLY wanted to make a big hit, and become more successful than he already is, then he could.
But IMO, he doesn't lower himself to make music that has been diluted and tampered with. Nobody has freedom of speech anymore.

The thing is he ALREADY tried to be a commercially successful rapper and put out radio hits, and he was nowhere near as successful as Jay Z was, every album between Illmatic and Stillmatic was him attempting to find radio success. And for all the talk about him being more lyrical than Jay Z, Jay Z has 3 classic albums(at a shit more near classic albums) Nas only has 1.

Nas never tried to be a commercial success like that w/ radio hits. EVERY rapper has to put out a song to get them some sort of a buzz or attention. Maybe Nas did want the big bucks from Oochie Wally but the intent was to get him on TV/radio enough so that people could familiarize themselves with him.

How many times has he tried after that to be a commercial success? Think about it. He put a few songs like Oochie Wally and got his name out, One Mic was more of a real song than anything, & I remember that song being huge when the video came out. Nas Is Like music video was again, not an attempt at making a hit, it was just real rap with a real music video.

What's stopping Nas from hitting up Swizz Beats or Kanye for a catchy ass beat so he can make a hit? Certainly not the money, he has more than enough money to get w/e the fuck he wants from w/e producer, i'm sure.

It's his self respect and loyalty to his fan base to put out the shit HE WANTS and the shit his core fan base wants.
