MMA or Boxing?
Watching poor old James Toney Vs Randy Couture there just made me want to make this thread, again.
MMA has gotten so big in recient years, and boxing has went into somewhat of a decline due to the politics which has become involved. This means that MMA has broken in and became a bigger sport. So, what do you prefer? |
To me, boixng is still much more entertaining. I will just show you the last two full events I have watched in boxing and MMA, and I think it sums up why I prefer boxing:-
Mike Jones V Irving Garcia KO 5 Antwone Smith V Lanardo Tyner TKO 9 Kevin Carmody V Ryan Belasco UD 6 Walter Edwards V Anthony Smith TKO 2 Miguel Corcino V Epifanio Cosme Rodriguez TKO 1 Nate Diaz V Marcus Davis SUB 3 Kenny Florian V Gray Maynard UD 3 Demian Maia V Mario Miranda UD 3 Randy Couture V James Toney SUB 1 Frankie Edgar (c) vs. B.J. Penn *STOPPED WATCHING* The boxing event had one decision, and both early and late KOs, and this was a small enough event. The UFC event had two decisions, two submissions (one unimpressive by Couture) and whatever will happen in the Penn fight. I watch this stuff for KOs. I feel that MMA has too much grappling, clinching and fear of being hit in the fighters (rightfully due to practically bare knuckle fighting). There isn't enough stand up punch for punch action, which I find more entertaining than gaining a more advantagous position on the ground. That's just me though. I have boxing in my blood, and although as a sport I'd prefer to do MMA, I think Boxing is more entertaining to watch. |
Frank Edgar and B.J. Penn UD 5
25 Minutes, no KOs or Submissions. Awesome! |
Boxing. Boxing is just some much more joyful to watch. It is original, and never gets old. But again, it is opinionated.
|
In defence of MMA though, you get to see what you want. Those guys don't have characters as much, which is definently a good thing. Boxing benefited years ago from having your Ali's and Tyson's, but now we have Mayweather afraid of his own record, and the Klitsckhos hiding from David Haye. There should be some sort of way to force them to fight, and have regulation deals or something lol. MMA has the big fights when they are called for.
|
Thas' no doubt E ... Co-sign.
|
Also, there is so much more of a prospect feeling in boxing. I have like 20 names written in my phone of boxer who have impressed me enough for me to follow them and watch them when I can. Antwone Smith, Felix Diaz, Mike Jones, Josef Elegele, David Lemiuex etc. I could never do that with MMA.

I Like How The Bias Of Your Statements Just Show Right Away...
|
And you have the gayest Avy ^
|
^he's right. but Fuck LOD
|
K-1 is better than both, but if I had to choose I'd choose MMA just because it incorporates a lot more skills into it.
|
KJ, isn't K-1 just an MMA promotion?
Stud, I favor Boxing, how can you say which one you favor without being bias? You are really stupid this year for some reason. |
Boxing, Boxing, Boxing.
Where's UA? Preach for me. |
Both are awesome, MMA is clearly More Versatile,, but Boxing is Legendary.....Btw Ive done both for a decent amount of time, nothing is more fun the Boxing

Before Stu, you fooled people into thinking you were smart with good grammar and spelling, but now you will NEVER get 2010 smarted award.
I am very surprised at everyone saying boxing. I thought everyone would be on the MMA bandwagon. KJ and dmullz, K-1 is not that entertaining compaired to boxing though, not hype, and dmullz you have never seen REAL muay thai as it is not televised. |
Boxing. Alot of those MMA ppl seem to scared to get knocked out so they resort to ground moves.
|
It's not really scared to be knocked out Dosage. Some people are genuinley not able to fuck with other people in the stand up game. MMA has elements like Ju-Jitsu, which are nothing to do with stand up fighting, and some people are Ju-Jitsu experts but lack in stand up, so it's only reasonable for them to try and win it with ground domination or submission.

honestly? MMA's not even THAT much fun to watch.

MMA :high:

i was at a bar across the street from the TD Garden when that fight was going on...the bar showed all the fights leading up to it, but not the actual fight, so i never got to see the outcome (but heard it was bad)...a few of the fighters came in later that night (chuck lidel being one of them) - pretty cool seeing these ppl in person

I prefer boxing personally.
MMA is great at times but too much groundwork is a bit boring. Boxing just got that special factor to me. Especially heavyweight shit. |
Quote:
Oh, you werten't taling about in boxing? SMH So many people, like you, say "Yeah, boxers are shit in UFC, James Toney got murdered proving that MMA is better". I'm sorry, but were they boxing? Toney would KO Couture in like 30seconds in boxing. Floyd Mayweather would KO Anderson Silva like round 3 in boxing. |

Oh definently. A champion boxer Vs a champion MMA fighter in the same weight in a boxing match would be over in seconds for the boxer. Although, this is similarly true visa versa for the MMA fighter.
Therefore, it all comes down to which is more entertaining. |
MMA you fucking idiot... Boxing is fucking boring, a bit of blood and they stop the fight, MMA is a bloodbath and fucking brutal... When would you see a Boxer fight with a broken arm, leg, nose etc??? Ok maybe a nose, but brake his arm and win the fight?? NEVER!!! Boxing fucking sucks and is for people who have no life and think boxing will get them out of a shit hole, MMA fighters are athletes and proper fighters!

Shane Carwin would get KOed in round 1 by any world title holding heavyweight boxer.
|

Fair enough, he may be able to punch harder, but he can't punch BETTER. He is sloppy. 90% of MMA fighters are sloppy punchers in comparrison to boxers. Tyson would DEFINENTLY KO Carwin, maybe in his first 3 punches. Punch for punch, not a single UFC fighter can match up to the boxing greats of each weight relevent.
Carwin V Tyson Liddel V Jones Jr. Anderson Silva V Pacquiao ETC. ETC. |

Put them in a street fight and see what happens, no rules, no gloves, no refs, no corner screaming at them for help... Just them and their fists!
