Where were you before LB?
Just as the title reads. Where were you guys before LB? Is LB the first place you battled on?
|
GM, RB, SixShot, BrickCity. Maybe one or two others I just cant remember.
|
Brickcity
|
Never been on any other site except from LB myself. Went to Netcee's once just to see what it was like but left shortly after.
|
Just LB. I checked out Netcees I think, or some other site and didn't like the site layout.
|
Facebook, till i googled rap battles online.. signed up for a few, including GM. Liked LB's format so stuck.
|
An MSN group called 'RapFreestyling'
|
First place I ever battled on was a site called freestyling.com back in like 1999-2000
|

Nowhere before LB. Started watching Epic Rap Battles of History and thought it was cool and wanted to see what else was out there in terms of battle rap. Found JumpOff, then KOTD/GrindTime simultaneously and then URL after. Loved every second of watching and tried to get as many updates on battle rap as possible when I was 16-17 then I thought “hey you should try it” and found LB, and the rest is (mostly deleted) history.

First it was AOL chatrooms in the late 90s and then there was a site called HHB (I can't for the life of me remember what B stood for though. I remember there was a dash in hip-hop in the URL but I JUST CAN'T remember what the B was.)

I tried Netcees but couldn't get into it. The format was too different. I also joined a place called LyricalAssault but everything about it was horrendous, especially the battlers. That was all after I joined LB, though. I got into rap battling when I was ~13 after watching Blizzard vs Mark Grist and some of Doms' battles in AHAT.

Fuck you Shodan. Your mom owes me an $1,800 deductible. Last time she came over she squirted so hard there was extensive water damage and my insurance won't cover flood damage because I live on the second floor. |

Cool to see so many people are from different places and so on.

2005.. a site called live digital. Shit was like YouTube but you could upload videos, mp3s, and pics. They had they're own players for mp3 that you could embed. Shit would of been better than YouTube if it didn't go under imo
Anyway they had money contests that the site ran for songs, videos, and even graphics. Then any users could do they own contests. So they had 3 years of what was called Spitcam. Spitcam 1 I missed and it was just the site running. But Spitcam 2 and 3 was run by Jin, which he was actually a part of it heavy, commenting on videos and dm'n Kats. $1000 prize. 90 second battle style video verse over a beat. The "first Rd" was just an open verse and getting likes from users to get to the top 16. Then it was head to head battling with official voting. But we was doing side battles and beefing with Kats too. It was like 4 or 5 Kats I knew from myspace that jumped on it. Shit was definitely one of a kind at the time and even since then, there ain't been too much like that with a known rapper being a part of it and being official at the end and not just for the app or site profiting.... I was spittin back then but not with alot of clever punches, basically just talkin shit but still lyrical. I made it top 8 in spitcam 1 and spitcam 3 and by that 3rd spitcam I was definitely better with the punches. SC 3 was deep too...they had at least 500 heads in it and it was a lot of talent. There was a bunch of somewhat known Kats too but only one I remember was Andy Milonakis was on there for all 3 spitcams. It was a chick that won the 3rd one and landed a song with Kool G Rap...Daphya or Dafiya was her name. So yeah at that time there was a few kats uploading full movies on live digital and YouTube. But it was the show 24 that this kat uploaded to LD and YT, like a bunch of episodes before it actually came out. So both sites got like sued or some shit and YouTube made it through it...and Live Digital went under. So then I was searching for something else because again live digital was deep with battling and it was just over...So I found LB...and word! was it fun back in the 2000s... unfortunately now...idk Only other sites were just to troll and battle reppin LB. I can't even remember any other forums... |
Cant see that last reply because he's temporarily blocked - but I would bet a thousand dollars it's random paragraphs of gibberish that aren't true.
Someone tell me if I'm right  |
Live freestyle battling. Real freestyles before people started pre-medding everything lol.
When i first joined LB i thought there was a timer on the text box so i used to write my verses in a few minutes. The text box used to say "Freestyle Battle" or something like that lol 1/ |

I got introduced to battle rap by watching AHAT battles. Started text battling on Habbo. Eventually, the community died so I stopped rapping.
Was watching some URL battles & the urge to battle again was killing me. I was literally itching like a crackhead. Got hype as shit once I realized letsbeef was still around. |
Canibus-central and joebuddentv

Found LB August 2006, joined a few sites after but never stayed, the rest is history.
