you're gonna have to put some vocal technique on it to make it rhyme.

It rhymes. I know yall got accents 'n shit but if you're going to be a textcee you're gonna have to deal with shit like this relatively 'n w an open mind... give the writer the benefit of the doubt. If it's not a reach to pull the slant rhyme off for you, it rhymes. This one is hardly a reach.

Kiwi Peewee 08-23-2020 01:04 AM

This one is a pretty hard reach for me in my accent; I'd give it the benefit of the doubt in a text battle most likely, but it would depend on if there were any other words the two were being rhymed with. But just as a general question? No I do not believe those two words rhyme.

The Saaxxx Baba 08-23-2020 03:04 AM

i did say are you fucked but then the fuck do i know i'm indian.

40killa 08-23-2020 05:25 AM

The way those words are supposed to properly be pronounced when you sound them out no they dont rhyme. But with different accents and slang talk people can pronounce it diifferent ways so yes you can make them rhyme. And this is rap so thats definitely allowed.

Rowdy 08-23-2020 08:24 AM

Agree with this. It’s just part of the deal

Manhattan 08-23-2020 11:57 AM

To me it doesn't really rhyme and I'd consider it a major slant. You'd could still get away with it in a text or audio battle.

People get away with rhyming "man" with "smack" and "wheel" with "kill" so why tf not right?

Curious as 2Fuel complained about my vote on the finals battle.. imo even with accent its still wrong..accents can be lost over time but the original English pronunciation(as would be written out in a dictionary) stays the same.

If you type the two words on dictionary.com ...its not even close.

"Original English" Pronunciation is something that is nonexistent in Northern America.

What i find funny is even now, at this stage, 13/14 years of LB and fuckers still saying "That doesn't rhyme when i read it"... as if i've not got the basics of writing down already lol.

Ya'll pronounce things completely differently than we do over here... so who's correct? Both lol. Ya gotta stop expecting folks to write how you pronounce words.

Whats more is that it isn't even a mad reach or stretch as the 'ULL' of both words were utilised in the scheme they were in.

Open up your Merriam Webster app and listen to the chick or dude pronounce every word.

Sure they sound REAL CLOSE . Off by a hair but its not a complete rhyme.

That one day when you said "Book" and "Buck" rhymed, I knew we were dealing with heavy accents

I'm not talking about hip hop songs specifically. As everyone in here mentioned, in audio text battling, etc you can get away with it but overall, is it an ACTUAL rhyme? No its not. We just let certain words slide when it comes to hip hop and battling. Thats why we refer to them as slants.

I'm aware of that, fam. Slants rhymes were around before hip hop. William Yeats was one of the first to use slant rhymes in his poetry back in like the early 20th century.

The issue is, Cel's comment over me rhyming 'skulling' & 'pulling' in my opener saying they don't rhyme/docking points for it...

SKULLING THE PAIR AND FAPPING AT MASS
PULLING HIS HAIR AND SLAPPING HIS ASS

Granted, i've no issue w/ Cel over his pov but this does rhyme. If it's being used as a slant it rhymes. :high:

The words are usually written out how theyre pronounced right beside the definition, in most dictionaries. Though, bar aside, you didnt lose 92 percent of the vote due to one slant. I thought it threw off that particular punchline that is all

I know... i didn’t make this thread lol.

Pulling, Skulling still work 😜:D

Dictionary definitions only go so far, technically there's no (perfect) rhyme for Orange but Eminem makes a compelling case.

Kiwi Peewee 08-24-2020 01:35 AM

If Americans on the site get away with rhyming wheel/kill, and also wordplays like pin/pen, then 2FUEL deserves to have pulling/skulling. Does it rhyme? Not in my accent. Could it easily rhyme in someone else's accent? Yes. That being said, accent-leeway can only go so far before shit starts getting out of hand. I know that book/buck rhymes in an Irish accent, but the words are so clearly different that its FUEL's responsibility to not go there.

I've had the same thing, for instance slant/aren't and stand/hanged rhyme (or are at least assonant) in my accent but most North Americans won't buy it. imo if the vowels are the same (i.e. pull/skull or stand/hanged) then it makes sense they could rhyme in someone else's accent, so you should give them the benefit of the doubt. If the words are spelt and pronounced nothing alike (book/buck) then unless you can easily and directly imagine how they'd be pronounced to rhyme, I think its fair enough to criticise the rhyme.

NOTE: Wordplay is a bit different. In a wordplay the two words should sound near- or completely-identical, so I think much less leeway should be given, and if you're going to attempt a wordplay, write it to work in a commonly-known accent.

Word... though, over here. We pronounce 'book' as 'buck'. We don't say bOOOOOOk... *The 'buck' i'm reading is pretty good*... It's how it's pronounced over here. I've never heard anyone, ever pronounce 'book' with an "Ewww" stretch on the oo's in it.

Y’all way too technical in here honestly I see why most of y’all write corny shit on the internet instead of record y’all selves. Listen to the guy & girl pronounce it on your Marion Webster app? Lmfaooo we gonna dull our schemes down to Stephen Hawking’s dialect? Wtf is that.

& I swear half y’all+ don’t actually try to comprehend or understand complex verses. Y’all are legit shitty narrow minded readers & y’all wonder why this site’s dying. It’s dying bc there’s no creativity at all. This whole site has a single boring ass structure every big cat I read on here sticks too & anything outside that is so beyond you.
