Audio Concept Tourney #2 CONCEPT SUGGESTIONS
 

Now that we have at least 12 signups the audio concept tourney will definitely be running, I’m probably gonna finalise it and get it up and running in the weekend, although hopefully we get even more signups in the meantime. That means it’s time to get suggestions from everyone on what concepts should be in the tourney. You do NOT need to be participating in the tournament to suggest concepts. Suggest as many as you like, and if you see a concept that you think won’t work for whatever reason then please comment as such because I may not realise that.

Last years concepts were:

Melee weapons
Compliment battle
Shots at the industry (bars directed at mainstream rappers)
Ridiculous wordplays
Super smash bros

I don’t want to repeat any of these (except maybe compliment battle), but hopefully this gives you some ideas.

When I initially proposed the concept tournament, I had the idea of it being a sort of topic. As opposed to a type of battle(this is why I initially posited it as a theme battle.)

So, for example, a concept I'd have used when running the tournament would be "Potato chip brands." General topics, as opposed to things like "horrocore battle," etc.


The premise was modeled after 100 Barz's UFC themed battle.

Ridiculous Wordplay should definitely be used again.

If you sign up for the tourney I’ll chuck in a concept like homoerotic bars, famous porn stars or sex toys.

Although I think the majority of battles in a concept tourney should be following the kind of concepts you’re talking about, it’s beneficial to have the other forms not centred around a specific tangible thing as well. Partly because these are often some of the most interesting battles, partly because they add variety and challenge, and partly because the concept tourney is one of the few places these forms of battle take prominence. The problem with exclusively using topics like “potato chip brands”, “TV shows” or even stuff like “board games” or “kids toys” is that there’s often a great deal of variation between countries, which realistically means that for users outside of the USA or sometimes UK, these battles often don’t make much sense because we don’t recognise the brands and names and stuff they’re based around. Something like a compliment battle, horrorcore, self-disses or whatever is to a much greater extent universally accessible to all battlers and voters.

I agree with this in part, but some of the types of battles you're listing, I wouldn't consider to be concept battles. But, rather parodies or parody battles.

I would love to join but I'm not set up to commit I've done audio tourneys before so I myself know I'm not ready Maybe next time

I think that’s a fair point, but more generally I think the word “concept” has morphed to mean any stipulation that affects the ideas behind bars within a battle (whereas a “scheme” is a stipulation that affects their rhyming). That being said I do think there are some “concepts” that have been used that blur the line somewhat with topical battles.

It actually almost got cancelled this year lmao, but yeah I’m really glad because it’s probably my favourite tournament, and this year’s audio concept tourney is the biggest ever! (Which admittedly isn’t hard lol)
