New Tourney Idea
 

How would you guys feel about possibly replacing one of the bracket text tournaments like the one bar or the concept with this idea?

Tourney name: The Gauntlet
Winners title: Gauntlet Champion

Each round would be something different to test the skills of all opponents. For instance:

Round 1: One bar
Round 2: Scheme
Round 3: topical
Round 4: Concept
Round 5: Tradition 16/32

This is just a random order of how each round would possibly work. A tournament like this would grant the winner a very hard earned title that’ll be well deserved. Just an idea that i had and the staff wanted to know the thoughts behind everyone about it. This would replace one of the current bracket tournaments such as concept, one bar or maybe another suggested tournament. Could possibly keep all current tournaments and just add this one.

Thoughts?

I think this would be a really dope tournament idea. However, I really wouldn't want to see any of the once-a-year bracketed tournaments like the one-bar, concept or scheme tournaments go. Perhaps it could replace one of the seasonal tournaments that isn't a GC?

It could possibly slide into the month of June or September as there is no tournaments scheduled during those months if no one wants a current tournament replaced. One of those months would possibly be reserved for ROTY

I love this idea, my only two notes would be I'm not mad on the title "Gauntlet" and I think the final should be a 64 to differentiate it.

I was actually just thinking that @Musashi. Pulling out a 64 with tourney-type deadlines would be the ultimate conventional-text-battling challenge, and it would keep every round out-of-the-ordinary.

The brackets would have to have the same line length set for every round.

I'd say replace the concept tournament with this one.

For sure. This is just a shell of an idea. The tourney name and/or title name is subject to change. Just wanted to run the “idea” of it past everybody and get the feedback. So far, so good.

Great idea however I don’t think it should replace any tournaments. As that then means which ever one it replaces, that title will no longer be available to obtain. I say just fit it in somewhere.

Not without a big overhaul.

We could just use a 64 line box for every round, but use a pre-written block of text to block out certain sections.

in order for such sort of a tourney to work you did need a points kinda set up like the one with the most wins or some shit instead of the usual knock out style set up.

I love this idea. I’d change the topical to an alias/imitation type battle just cuz topical is so so different than the others, both with writing and with voting.

And don’t replace the concept tourney...I’m biased but I think they’ve been good reads as a whole and wouldn’t wanna see it go away

Great idea for a forum tournament without a usertitle. But, I definitely wouldn't want this in the brackets. Especially not at the cost of one of the already established tournaments.

64 lines is way too much. Just make it 16 ya weirdos, the change of battle type will add enough challenge as is. No other tourney is even 32 lines. Keep shit consistent

We could do that with the spring throwdown perhaps. Everyone pm's the verses to me, and i post on a blank account in the brackets.

Everyone votes, i delete all the self / crew votes before closing the round.

Only one who knows which votes were deleted is the mods.

If you could make the voters all anonymous that'd be dope af too. Maybe it'd stop people from being all weird and obsessing about who voted and what name they're facing and just write dope shit

hmm... i guess people could pm there votes too. I would use multis with altered VP to keep the VP number correct. That would keep everything anonymous and should work?

I think this should be the format for that second GC you want.. would be very interesting and seems like it'd shake things up.

Why do the votes need to be anonymous too?

Also in general it’s really easy to tell who wrote certain verses. Without reading the account name and just reading the text I can easily identify a RULE verse, Rai verse, a Rant verse, a lock verse, EtH verse, etc. Not really sure how this format would pan out in practice

As for the main part of the thread. Idk. It doesn’t sound “bad” but to me it’s kind of just like, why? It’s just all the other tournaments but combined? Either way, I definitely don’t think it should replace any current tournament, but maybe get added on if we wanna fill the schedule.
