~ Are Battle Verses for ENTERTAINMENT Anymore? ~

Or How Many Times It Made Your Nod Your Head or Say 'Ohh Shit' Under Your Breath? Why Is It Nowadays, The Judging Is So 'Technical' And 'To The Point? Used To Be Shit Said Like, 'Winner, Your Opener Had My Picking Up My Jaw!' Or 'Line 3 Almost Made me Jump Outta My Seat'..Etc Etc And Now, After Emotions, Envy, Dodging and Politics Have consumed So Many Members, All You See in the Voting Comments Is 'Syllable Count Wasn't Matching (Who Cares), Most Of those Multi's Were Broken (Umm..And?) Feels Like I'm Taking A School Test Rather Than Dropping Bars that The Reader Can Understand and Enjoy without Much Effort. 1. The Verse Should Be Able to Be Read and Understood without Too Much Explaining. (unless You Have an Extremely complex Scheme) 2. It Should Make The Reader Feel SOMETHING other Than Just the Fact that they're Voting For a Credit. 3. You Shouldn't Have to Go Back And Read a Line More than Once maybe Twice to Grasp the Concept Delivered. 4. You Should Be ENTERTAINED!! Other Than That, why Would You Be Breaking Down The Verse to Points Of Such a Specifically Rated Means That You're Lost In the Rules and what 'Society' Believes a Verse Should Look and Count Like..?? Its Just Something That I've Noticed. Most Will Just Make Jokes and Not take this Shit Into Serious Consideration, But Maybe SOMEONE Will. This is Just a Discussion so LETS TALK!!! |

gotta agree w/ this too ... shit's like "you keep putting "" around tha wrong thing" - WHO THA FUCK CARES?!?! battling's about whose verse entertains you more, not 'bout how simple or complex a verse is, but maybe it's just tha structure here ... Setup --> Punch kinda thing

I agree with this as well.. I don't have the most technical verses by any means but it's a smooth read. I don't do expos on my verses because they're simple. Sometimes folks on here be cramming too much shit into a line and I get that it's "complex" and all but it begins to lose effect after chugging through a line with 83 different references. I know I have a much different style than most of you are used to seeing but I like how I write and it doesn't affect how I vote on anyone else battle. I respect creative differences. I just think sometimes a simpler verse with more direct punches is more effective and entertaining than one with 47 different quotes per bar.

Yeah your point is structured weirdly. You're saying you value emotional voters over logical voters, and that might be cool when they're going "oh your opener made me pick up my jaw off the floor" but that allure fades fast & turns to dick riding easily as well.
If yall really voting on entertainment alone, switch to a roast battling website instead of a rap battling one. |

In my mind a verse is technically good when you can read it out loud and it flows and makes sense. When it doesn't that means that you have issues with your awkward wording, multi spacing, rhyming, or some other technical aspect. There are times when you can write shit and think it sounds fine, then when you read it aloud you're just like, "what the fuck???"
Every single time that I vote on here I read the verse aloud to see if I can find a natural flow and to see if there is shit in there that sounds nothing like regular human speech. When I get to a portion of a verse where I just go wtf when hearing it or when I lose the flow I figure out what's wrong and mark points down for it. Honestly most of the time it's wording, a decent amount of the time it's multi's spaced to far apart, and sometimes it's just shit that doesn't rhyme. On occasion it's multi's being broken, but I actually have a tendency to let those pass if it sounds okay. To me the best sign of a really strong technical verse is when you find yourself naturally reading faster the deeper you go into a rhyme scheme, when the scheme changes it's almost jarring. That's when you know it's good. I don't think a lot of people on here anymore really read or rate verses like this anymore though. Probably a reason why I'm (admittedly) biased against word flips. |
