Letsbeef Text Rankings

I will do a weekly review to this thread with updates based on battle results. This is by sign-up only. To sign up post your request below. Here's how the ranking system will work..

Point System:

Heavyweight Win - 10 Points
Middleweight Win - 5 Points
Lightweight Win - 1 Point
Featherweight Win - 0.5 Point

As this has never been undertaken before I will initially put you into a category based on my own opinion of your skill set. As the weeks go on this will increase in accuracy with each result.

Heavyweight Table:
- Bleu (0 Points)

Middleweight Table:
- Aggo (0 Points)
- Nicholas (0 Points)
- Rai (0 Points)
-Shodan (0 Points)

Lightweight Table:
- Seul (0 Points)
- MACC (0 Points)

Featherweight Table:
- MC KG (0 Points)

At the end of each month the top member of each category (with the exception of Heavyweight) will be promoted to the category above. The lowest scoring member will be relegated to the category below. The highest scoring Heavyweight will be considered 'Most Valuable Player (MVP)' - reward to be decided.

In the result of equal points then play-offs will occur for the promotion spot. The same will occur for relegation battles.

Next weekly update due:
7th January
Next monthly promotions/relegations due: 31st January

This is a good idea, but at 5he end of the day this really rewards activity over skill. Maybe the point tiers should be farther apart. As is someone could beat 2 of the sites best while bnas snipes 12 opens.

Aggo 12-31-2017 07:33 AM

That said consider this a sign up.

Nicholas 12-31-2017 07:34 AM

I should also specify. This is not a PPV card or tournament. This is simply a league table based off results on your battles with other people that are listed in the league.

I did consider that. I think there might be a learning curve over the first few months. We might have to continually tinker with the point system until we get it right. This will be a long-term commitment though so we have time to iron out the details.

I've changed the point scoring after thinking about @Aggo's point. As I said though it might change again over the next few months.

If you used an ELO formula to calculate the points, then how often people battle wouldn't matter as much towards their rankings.

Reading the Wiki page this looks complex. How easy would implementation be?

NOBLE 12-31-2017 11:16 AM

I can send you a spreadsheet with the formulas already precalculated. All you'd have to do is enter the respective battlers' current rankings and signify who won or lost and it will calculate their new rankings. ELO or Glicko (modified ELO) also considers RD (ratings deviation) which is like standard deviation in statistics. You can give everyone a provisional rating based on how you'd rank them, then their RD changes based on the number of battles they've completed. RD pretty much determines how much their ratings will swing by a win or loss. The idea is that the more battles they have had in order to reach their current rating, the more accurate the rating is considered. Just let me find the spreadsheet first and you can have a look at it.

Or this should just be coded into the site as a whole..

You have a Computer Science degree, don't you? I bet you could write a script to download the result of every text battle (slowly, so it doesn't overload the server), then calculate the ELO ratings for every member based off of that.

You fit the featherweight.

NOBLE 01-01-2018 11:35 PM

@Nicholas So I found the spreadsheet. You would only need to edit the yellow areas and input a person's current rating, their RD, the opponent's rating and RD, and whether it was a win or loss. When you click an empty area, it will automatically calculate. P.m. me your email and I can share with you in Google Drive so that you can edit.

Toss me in this. Why not.. look like you need more featherweight.
