Another Idea
Stolen from Geocaching.com. We could have calendars added to each profile. Every time you battle on a date that date is crossed off. The goal being to cross of as many days as possible and complete your 365 day calendar. This works well with Geocaching as people do make deliberate attempts to fill the calendar, I see no reason why this couldn't work with Letsbeef.
People would need to battle 365 times at a bare minimum to fill the calendar, that's a ton of activity! Obviously this would require adding by an admin. It could be a fresh addition to profiles or could replace the redundant skill ratings. Thoughts? Here's an image of the Geocaching.com system. The numbers reflect how many caches have been found on each date: https://adairmd.files.wordpress.com/...2/finalcal.jpg |

Not to be that guy... Again. But, maybe see some of your other ideas through to completion first.

What's the purpose of this addition for this particular site, though? In what way is it less redundant, or offer more value than the text skills? Why is this relevant information to track, in regard to a battle rapping website?

I think this thread brings up a good general idea about motivating people to battle
My original idea for this was the Emcee system, it was supposed to be more automated and tied into the battling system, so when you hit certain win streaks, or shutout someone on a battle, you'd get items automatically awarded. There would maybe be a way to put your items up for bet on a battle (like "I'll bet my chain on this battle"..), and a way to purchase items with credits. @Pugz and I played a lot of Overwatch recently, and they do a really good job of this with the characters and items you can get for your characters, it really motivates people to play the game more. I'm thinking about revamping the Emcee system to be more like this.. and making Emcees more prominent throughout the site (new artwork too). |

I don't know about the emcees thing, personally. I'm five years in & still haven't even got an emcee, because they're just wholly unimportant to me and impact nothing. In fact I found them almost a damper on my profile, which is why I decided against it. Perhaps this is just me, though.

Honestly, I think small cosmetic awards (like emcee items) are most valuable in large communities, where people don't know most other users well. Since you can't become familiar with everyone, you rely on badges and such to tell you about people. With a smallish community like LB, where active users are usually well-known to each other, it's less relevant because you already know people in detail.
That's not to say that they're useless, just that they aren't nearly as valuable as they would be if LB had 10,000 active members. |

Seems like a decent idea but also a waste of space..

I think the idea is horrible. This is a rap battle website
I could think of 1,000,000 things LB could use before they implement a fucking activity tracking calender |

@Nicholas
The calendar's not a bad idea at all, but it is a bit boring. Using things like emcee items and awards is a much better way to go about displaying achievements. EDIT: That doesn't mean it shouldn't be used as a way to track that particular category of achievements. It just seems sort of lame to have the actual calendar displayed on people's profiles. Maybe that's just me though |
It's not a bad idea, I'm just fucking with you
But there are a bunch of things LB could use more. A virtual currency or the ability to purchase Emcee items would be dope. And seeing as how the forums are dead, it'd be VERY wise to implement a virtual currency where people earn $$ based on starting threads, replying to threads, voting on polls, etc etc. That currency could also be the credits system LB is already utilizing. But considering mods can change credit values on accounts and some people are sitting on 10,000 credits, I believe an entirely separate virtual currency thing would work better. I'm not pulling this out of my ass either. I know what works simply because I'm a member of at least 50 forums (50 might even be an understatement) and I've seen what several webmasters have utilized to make $$ or increase activity. |

I've seen godbody suggest the currency system before, and I liked it then too. Though it does seem like a more lengthy undertaking than the tweaks & additions as of late, wonder if @X could do this?

If there's a way for members to arrange they're top 10 awards it shows in the forums that could be useful.

It would be good if we could remove awards as well as give them. Then for example when you get the '9 Years In' award we could remove the '6 Years In' one, same with the battle awards. This would go a little way in stopping the awards just becoming a cloud of logos. |

You can remove awards, you delete them in the modcp > awards system / delete from user. Plus I firmly believe a huge reason the FVC hasn't worked out is on top of giving people a colored name, it's italicized and they get a user title. The "incentive" is way too much for people and they bullshit their way in there just to be "different". If it's only an award, it'll be less gaudy and if they're able to move the awards and show the top they want to show in the forums, they could put that somewhere in there. Thinking like "Current FVC Member" or something. Just brainstorming, on another note the FVC name needs to die. Good Vote Squad, Elevated Voters Clique, etc. I don't know, something else to distinguish it from the past incarnations. NOBLE's approach worked the best imo but it needs to be refined as well, look at previous history, really research voting habits and patterns. |
