Using the Forums = skill level???
 

This came out of a conversation I was having with @Subreal. Do you believe there is a correlation between skill level on LetsBeef and how often members use the forums? Are members who frequently use the forums generally more skilled than members who don't? If so, why do you think that is?

i wrote some shit.. and scrolled up to switch tabs real fast.. and ended up hitting a bookmark so all my shit was erased.. ill come back to this at a later time and rewrite some stuff

@Row Not including conspiracy theories as to other accounts he may have, DaDDiO has over 120 posts, just on his main, and I have personally spoken with Phroxen on the forums. so lololol.

Also, as a percentage, I'm going to guess that the amount of bad people who use the forums is much greater than the amount of good people who don't. Just saying. I think it's because the weaker ones don't feel welcome on the forums.

not saying that they havent posted , but they have very small amount of posts compared to yourselves. gawd

Peoples who use the forums more get shown favoritism and less harsh feedback from voters. As a new comer from another site this is what I've noticed.

I don't think this is a matter of the use of the forums. I think those who take the site more seriously, and subsequently battling more seriously, are more likely to engross themselves more so with the site. They take the time to become more familiar with it, because they are also taking the time to better their individual craft. It isn't that the use of the forums is a determinant of skill level, it is that those who are more skilled, are more skilled, because of a better use of their time on that site, which, inevitably leads to a stronger understanding of the specific sections of the site. And a more frequent use of the forums.

So you're saying people are less inclined to vote against those they are familiar with and forum use helps familiarize people? I do agree that familiarity factors into people's biases, but not necessarily forum familiarity. LB has a certain format which people who have been here longer understand and utilize more, and sometimes newcomers coming from other sites might be at a disadvantage towards even if their verses are solid simply because some voters aren't familiar with their format. Things like capitalizing end rhymes, signifying wordplay/metaphors with quotations, even sometimes down to the style and bar structure. I experienced the same thing when I first came here and eventually adapted my style towards that. I don't think people are voting thinking "hey, I know that guy from the forums, so he gets my vote." I think it's more like "that guy's style/punch structure more so resembles the structure of people that are considered great on LB so he must be the winner." It's more about familiarity with style--and I'm not saying that's necessarily a good thing either.
