Need a new USB mic.

I've been broadcasting/recording my podcast with a thirty dollar USB mic from Target for a while now and I just really don't like it. It just isn't hot enough. I have to get right up on it in order to be heard and even then what it picks up is fairly muted. So I wanna pick something better up to record with. My budget is really small though and I've got about $100 to maybe $120 maximum I want to spend on it. I've looked at some mics on Amazon and Musician's Friend but I honestly don't know shit about khz or what a cardiod pickup pattern does so I thought I'd ask you fine folks if you could help me pick something that isn't going to be complete shit.

MXL 990 is decent fam and I believe they have a straight usb one...I had that one and the MXL 4000....both were awesome! The 4000 had an option on decreasing the DB's -10 if it was too loud but I paid $200 for the 4000...The Mxl 990 varies in type so prices differ...I bought an MXL Mic Mate to convert them to USB because the pre-amp went out...worked perfect...:high:

I was looking at this one but it started talking about Mghz and Cardioid shit and I was like "I'm just gonna ask somebody so I don't end up with a piece of shit mic I hate."

Also this one

I'll take a look at MXL mics and see if they've got something in what I'm looking to spend. I just want it for my podcast and to do voice overs for Let's Plays so I don't need a super expensive ultra high quality mic. Just something that's hot enough that I don't have to be .000001 inches from the mic for it to hear me like the one I have no and is at least decently crisp and clear.

I looked at the Blue mics but they have built in pop filters and from what I understand those kind of mics tend to have a muted sound.

You could grab the AT020 USB by Audio Technica, great mic. I use it record my music which you can check quality followin the link in the sig. It's also reasonably cheap.

The only issue I have there is that mic looks to be phantom powered which I believe means it requires a preamp of some sort. I gotta have something I can just sock right into the USB port on my computer.

Funny though that I have a mic stand almost exactly like that already though.

i haven't read the whole thread so maybe someone already mentioned this..but i personally owned a Blue Yeti for over a year, and for the price it was amazing. I only switched because I was ready to upgrade and needed a phantom power mic.

A friend from twitter said that she uses that one for her podcast and her sound is very nice.

For vocals you want a condenser mic. The mxl 990 ambitious mentioned is a solid choice but you my need to save uo a little more.

FreezyCT 10-09-2013 07:47 AM

no the mic is USB

Mindless 10-15-2013 10:43 AM

Probably nobody cares but I decided to go with the USB AT2020. If it sucks I'm gonna go to Swag's house and rape his mother.
