Your Definition Of Filler .

I wanna know what you guys define as filler , I see people say "that verse is straight filler" but sometimes Im curious as to what others mean. I think everyone defines it slightly different Sooo yeah ... drop ya feed

AfterThought 03-05-2013 01:05 PM

Multies that are just there to rhyme/fill space & are not related to the punch.

I've seen people call filler when everything connects, I think people sometimes don't get the theme or w.e so just call filler.

Fredo Lombardi 03-05-2013 02:20 PM

always thought filler was anything thats not a punchline or wordplay

Aggo 03-05-2013 03:34 PM

That shit they put in the burgerking hamburgers. I think it's called "hoarse meat" or some shit.

Hubert Cumberdale 03-05-2013 05:59 PM

People not getting the theme is really down to the writer though Just. I know there's PLENTY of situations where I don't get a line because some dude has a reference to a basketball player or something. If people want to pick refined references, then they should take responsibility for a reader not getting it. I'm sure theres a dope line with Tony Watt in there somewhere which I'm avoiding :D

Fredo Lombardi 03-05-2013 06:04 PM

@Dave makes a good point some celebrity punches that may have been nice I never got because I never heard of the person

Hubert Cumberdale 03-05-2013 06:10 PM

It's not even just media references. Quite a lot of the time there's probably a bar I don't get. Like with themes and filler Just mentioned. If I don't get it, I don't feel it's clear enough. I'm a pretty good voter and I get the majority of lines, so when I don't get something I feel it's the writer's fault.

Funniest is the "Dont get something...dont vote". Fuck off, this is a 16 line battle, you went second...and its your last line I dont get. Im fucking voting you cock swollower! Or "Dont get it, PM me". No....thats not how battling works. You dont see KOTD dudes asking Charron to stop mid verse and explain what he meant.

RULE 03-05-2013 06:12 PM

man how i hate seeing eth being right.

In a battle filler to me is when you start talking bout yourself not the opponent

Fredo Lombardi 03-05-2013 06:22 PM

you killed it with that charron reference though m8

Hubert Cumberdale 03-05-2013 06:25 PM

You're fucking right I don't @RULE. I can't be arsed trying to log on with a proxy.

J u s T C 03-05-2013 06:48 PM

Actually it's not the writers fault. You can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time. You're asking the impossible of the writer if you're expecting him to write something everyone can understand, it's just not a realistic expectation. Just as you can't expect anyone voter to know everything he reads. It's nobody's fault.

Just 1-0 Eth

TheAnonP 03-05-2013 06:51 PM

turkish referees in champions league matches is filler.

Fuckin cunt

It's the writer's fault that I don't get it because they used a specific reference to a media outlet which I don't get. Their decision to pick something that people might not get. If that means someone doesnt get it, it's a reprocussion they chose.

J u s T C 03-06-2013 10:27 AM

How is it their fault exactly? explain?

You can't connect with everyone, it's IMPOSSIBLE. you can't expect the writer to connect with every single reader. lol wtf. you're talking out your arse.

Hubert Cumberdale 03-06-2013 12:59 PM

Because they didn't connect with ME. So if >I< am voting...and they didn't connect it with >ME<, it's down to them. Not that they should change it or try to write to please me, but if you pick a line with a specific media reference, you're running the risk of someone not getting it. If I spit a Rugrats line, not everyones going to know what Im talking about, and I am still choosing to risk the line not hitting in making that deciison.

J u s T C 03-06-2013 01:51 PM

But you're ALWAYS going to have the problem of certain people not getting a particular line. let me emphasise. ALWAYS. Is that sinking in?

I don't think you're getting how much it is out of the writers hands. it's impossible to please everyone, if the odds dictate something to be IMPOSSIBLE then it isn't that persons fault for not proving otherwise. there is no way around the impossible.

Hubert Cumberdale 03-06-2013 06:20 PM

It's about their ability to decide what is and isn't going to be accepted by a mass amount of people.

LB has quite a big UK population, and a reference to a basketball player isn't going to fly with everyone. Therefore, I'd avoid one. Just like how I wouldn't make a Tony Watt reference. You have to pick which lines will be accepted by most people and which won't. I won't getn them all, but if me and quite a few people also don't get that reference, overall the line will flop. Thats where it's down to the reader to make sure 9/10 readers get the punchline.

Rain-Matrix 03-06-2013 06:22 PM

my idea of filler is your idea of a good punch nikka

Godbody 03-06-2013 06:54 PM

Filler is just using lines for rhymesake

You might need a scheme for a punch that ends in "cleanin out the closet"

And then you say some random shit before it because it rhymes "See me as a prophet...blah blah blah blah cleanin out the closet!"

If the phrase has absolutely 0 substance & is irrelevent to the context behind it as far as dissing your opponent... and its only purpose is to introduce a punch or a rhyme then its filler

J u s T C 03-07-2013 07:57 AM

But there are 11 Americans in this thread alone more than there are British

Askari 03-07-2013 11:26 AM

Multies unrelated to the punch, played concepts and lazy concepts in general. BTD is a prime example, just formulaic and dull one bar set up - punch - one bar set up - punch. Lack of creativity, no relevance and played punches = filler.
