What The Fuck Y'all Know About Idioms!?!?

Idioms - What I make 99% of my punches with.
Idioms are the shit...

RhetoriK 07-12-2012 07:23 PM

idioms are a great foundation basis to loop concepts around tbh

SoupErb 07-12-2012 07:27 PM

Word, you can get some dope punches using Idioms.

Black Book 07-12-2012 07:27 PM

You take an idiom, throw a bit of your own twist into it, then make a relevant relation for the punch. BOOM! I make the punch then the set-up which is just relevant concepts & jabs leading to the punch.

RhetoriK 07-12-2012 07:34 PM

People relate to idioms more than just words. So the relevance is already there with an idiom. It's just a turn of phrase away from having impact in a bar.

Black Book 07-12-2012 07:35 PM

Yep, and y'all know who does it the best? DaDDiO. Go read his shit... He uses idioms like crazy, & he does it dopely.

TalkSick 07-12-2012 07:38 PM

So you cheat and google your bars on a daily basis?....

Gotchya mafucka lol Just bustin your balls, but yeah those are always nice to build and play with.

I have a Scholastic Book of Idioms..

Just thought I'd put that out there.. It's for sale also.. :high:

Black Book 07-12-2012 08:01 PM

Lol. @TalkSick. I just use idioms I already know cuz the more common ones connect with people better. If I looked up some weird random ones, no one would understand what I'm saying. Lol.

RhetoriK 07-12-2012 08:06 PM

Bruce Lee's book of Idioms is dope.

"Striking Thoughts"

It's his Philosophy Work plus closing idioms...check it.

Black Book 07-12-2012 08:08 PM

Sounds dope. I might just check that out.

haha.... funny, although the reason for keeping your hands closed is to ensure you don't end up breaking a finger from blocking etc...

i learnt that one the hard way lol...

What I hate about karate too is that hand on your side shit when you're doing techniques or kata. Doing techniques is all about muscle memory, so it can help when actually in a fight or competiton. Putting your hand by your side is awful for muscle memory because it will let you leave one of your hands down when throwing. The worst thing is the stand. One hand on your solar plexis and the other straight out. I mean, I know karate doesnt have any hooks but they should at least take it into account.

Yeah, you see there are different styles of fighting & for each a different method of teaching. When doing the Kata's/Patterns i do them Open Palm/Knife Handed... But when "Sparring" i keep the hands lightly closed. So if a kicks coming you can block with out braking a finger... trying to punch with a broke hand isn't nice lol..

Ahhhh, that whole hand by your side ish... man lol the "Keep you shoulders parallel, one arm extended to face and the other hand twisted on the hip" in a triangle motion shit lol... yeah, thats not going get you any where in a real life situation... shit, you wouldn't use it in a Karate competition lol...

Óðinn 07-12-2012 10:15 PM

I'm a few belts. Blue in Judo. Yellow-green tip in Tae Kwon Do & Shoe-Lace in Boxing lol...

haha...yeah, learning art forms they teach self control, have the ability to hurt someone, but only if really needed....fucking pussy footing about lol Its full contact you want :D. Yeah, its good to mix up things... few diff forms/techniques of fighting mixed. I'd love to learn Hapkido... the kicks are pure Lethal and its also weapon fighting (Sticks, Knifes, Rope etc) and mix that with BJJ... you'd be one tough cookie, let me tell ya. lol

(done other types of training, but you can't really put a 'Grade' on it lol)

RhetoriK 07-12-2012 10:25 PM

@Dave I think your instructors definition of control is mis-worded. It's true that it's easier to accidentally knock someone out than it is to make them look like an idiot with solid technique. However, if you're training for a tournament there's gotta be a certain adabtibility involved in your training. Nobody should know that more than whoever's training you. Close to competition, it's too hard to 'un-learn' certain things, but it is possible to make it work to your advantage.

The kata issue with having a reaction hand pulled to your side is relative to your choice of martial art. I guess remembering to do things like that 'keeps it real' to that martial art. You should cross train though. I know I was mad bored at the end of my training. I haven't been active in a couple years though.

We should have an LB Kumite!! LOL
