Body camera footage of the arrest of Sterling Brown.

Was this an appropriate use of force?

Discuss.

Dude exhibited a bit of aggressiveness, won't lie. Cop did just ask him simple questions that could've been answered without catching an attitude. The amount of cops was ridiculous though, there wasn't a need for it. He was wrong for parking in the handicap spot too. Wasn't inappropriate, dude wasn't following simple instructions. Why keep your hands in your pockets, after being told to remove them? I would think he had a weapon, as he said himself "i have something in my hand"

Tazer was excessive, tho. Was way too many cops to subdue him, didn't need it

So, you would consider this somewhat of a middle ground? With aspects being appropriate but others being excessive?

Could the "aggressiveness" you're remarking to be a defense mechanism to cope with the aforementioned aspects that you felt were excessive?

I MEAN THA GUY KIND OF PLAYED INTO THEIR HANDS REALLY...... REPONDIN TO 'TAKE YA HANDS OUT YA POCKETS'' WITH ''IVE GOT SOMETHIN IN MY HAND'' WAS PROBABLY THA WORST THING HE COULD OF SAID IN THAT SITUATION....... THA USE OF THA TASER WOZ COMPLETELY UNNESESSARY, I MEAN THERE WERE LIKE 5 OR 6 OFFICERS ON ONE GUY, DID THEY REALLY NEED TO USE THA TASER???? I THINK NOT...... AT THA START THO IT SEEMED TO ME THA OFFICER HAD THA ATTITUDE TO BEGIN WITH, THA GUY WOZ JUST REACTING TO AGGRESSIVE QUESTIONING......

TBH IF I WOZ IN THAT GUYS SITUATION I WOULDA BEEN SLIGHTLY ANNOYED AT HOW MANY COPCARS ACTUALLY TURNED UP, MAYBE THATS WHY HE DECIDED TO BE DIFFICULT COZ HE KINDA HAD A FEELIN WHAT WAS ABOUT TO GO DOWN..... HE WOZ IN THA WRONG TO BEGIN WITH THO WITH THA PARKING, BUT I DO THINK THEY HAD THA RIGHT TO ARREST HIM DUE TO HIS REACTIONS AND COMMENTS...... BUT THA USE OF THA TASER WOZ COMPLETELY UNCALLED FOR, I HOPE HE PRESSES CHARGES FOR THAT....

I'd consider this a somewhat appropriate use of authoritative force. Yes, I'd say it COULD be, however if he'd been more cooperative as opposed to defensive, things would've turned out differently. I'm sure he isn't blind to what's going on in the nation, he just must've forgotten what he was up against and let his feelings get in the way.

all dude needs to do is follow directions. at any given moment of hesitation a cop can get killed.

Would you consider the officer overly aggressive in his initial approach?

Shodan 05-26-2018 03:16 PM

of course it was appropriate. all blacks should be killed

He was an Idiot Who brought this on hiself. It doesn't matter if it was 4 am the law is the law.He could have parked in another spot just as easy.Just because it was so late and no one was parked in the spot makes it "ok" for him. That creates bad habits.I also think the cops over reacted.
