Anti-Gunplay

Ok, so I've been back for around a month now, and I've read a heap of battles in that period, some really crack ones too, but something's been seriously bugging me: The reccurence of gunplay.

Now I'm not saying that nobody on the site is a 'real thug' or whatever the fuck you wanna call it, and I've been dumb enough to fall into the trap before too, but does gunplay dumb down text battling?

Every day, every battle; I see new guys spitting real flames and then - predictably and shamelessly - I see a "put teccs to..." or "raise arms like..." and actually feel physically embarrassed reading it. These lines are often coming from 16/17 year old kids and not just that, but from members who - without naming names and like myself - have never shot an enemy on the streets or held someone up for their cash in their entire lives.

To me, more importantly, I feel it really dumbs down the battles. I'm pretty sure I've seen every gunplay line there is to be written in 10+ different form, and it's taking away from the real wow factor. Creativity vanishes or is traded so people can claim to be 'thug' because it's how EVERY rapper has to be, especially in a battle..... NAT. If I wanted to hear every single punchline about guns ever written I'd go and watch a few videos of Conceited on YouTube.

Don't get me wrong, I use gunplay as a flip for people who claim to shoot but I'm 100% certain they don't. A little hypocritical yes, but I use it in a personal attack and don't claim to be something I'm not, as opposed to boasting about my 5's and 9's and shottys and bla bla bla.

What do you guys think? I for one would like to see a damn site less gunplay around here, I feel it'd really help people improve, stop people getting complacent and bring a lot fresher concepts.

:high:

I'm 15, I been around guns before.
Anyway, I think it's how you put it in there is where creativity shines.
EDIT: I definitely think it should be used a little bit less, personally I get carried away sometimes. lol

Scotland doesn't have guns yet

Askari 11-18-2011 02:27 PM

I'd put my life savings on you never having shot a man though, no offence. I just think it's overused.

Talk to OE, UA, Mayneak, Real Talk etc, they'll tell you: virtually any gunplay line being written now has been written before. It's time to move on and get creative, not just rehash overused thuggery.

Why's that different?

KingBankstou 11-18-2011 02:33 PM

because live battling is real. face to face you can see ya opponenet and tell if they really bout wat they say or not for da most part and texting is over the internet . nobody should believe the shit u type anyway.

so your basically saying a author shouldn't be able to write a book unless they lived out every chapter??

imo it doesn't matter if someone uses gunplay or not, its all about how the actual concept is executed.. a fresh gunplay concept can be written as well as any other concept.. regardless to each his own, if you don't like using gunplay, then don't.. If someone else wants to use gunplay & it turns out shitty, then let them :high:

Not at all, what I'm saying is that there are a million and one other concepts out there, gunplay doesn't have to be rehashed at every oppertunity. I agree it can be executed well at times, but it's overused and - for me at least - it causes me to get a little bored.

It's just a little discussion reEFer, something to stimulate the mind etc. All I'm saying is try something new once in a while (not directed at you personally).
