Street fights mean weapons are involved.
What does street fighting have to do with it? In a boxing ring, even with MMA gloves, Tyson would KO Carwin in seconds.

Multiple Madness 08-31-2010 08:46 PM

One punch could knock anyone out... So whoever strikes first could essentially win, I'm bored of this conversation, MMA fighters are better all round and would kick the fuck outta boxers in a street fight, that's all that matters, it's more usable and how many fights in the street end up on the ground in a struggle, end of discussion

Chester Waterman 08-31-2010 08:57 PM

Yeah I agree, but I didn't ask which was more practicle, I asked which do people prefer. I trained both, and 100% I prefered training MMA. BUT, if both were on TV, Boxing would DEFINENTLY get my watch.

GPhantom 08-31-2010 09:00 PM

na cause boxin takes too long for the action

Chester Waterman 08-31-2010 09:06 PM

Lyoto Machida Vs Rashad Evans, one of the best fights in UFC ever.

5minutes of nothing, before the action began.

Boxing > MMA to watch.

i agree with this ... :high:

Tek Notez 08-31-2010 09:22 PM

MMA is better. MMA > Boxing to watch and to fight for real ... boxing is boring !!!

Tek Notez 08-31-2010 09:23 PM

& one more thing in boxing you can use just hands , nothing else ...

Chester Waterman 08-31-2010 09:25 PM

Grappling is the most adreniline rush to watch ever.

Boxing is one on one, stand up action. MMA's best fights...are the stand up ones. Erm, if boxing is always stand up, and MMA is best when it's stand up which it usually isn't....eeeeerrrrrrrrmmmmmmm

dmullz 08-31-2010 10:57 PM

I wrestled in HS and in a state ChampionShip Tourney, there is nothing better then Grappling

I take back my Boxing is better statement, There both awesome

Dexter3 08-31-2010 11:12 PM

MMA is that shit so MMA handsdown...just alot more shit involved and moves you can do that boxing wont allow....

PRiiME 09-01-2010 12:10 AM

tbh i really hate both........ so this decision is like asking me whether i'd rather have my balls stepped on or my dick cut off. either way i lose :(

Check mirko crop cop vs bob sapp in pride-then tell me how boxing is better:high:

You do know that Cro-Cop and Sapp fought in K-1 too right? K-1 is pretty much MMA except without the ground game, and while I do like submissions, stalling on the ground like a lot of the wrestlers in MMA do is pretty boring, so taking that element out but leaving in the stand up action is pretty entertaining.

Watch Leonard Garcia vs Chan Sung Jung, and tell me that's boring.

Chester Waterman 09-01-2010 11:26 AM

K-1 could be up there if it was a better funded thing. Alot of kickboxing only guys like Andy Hug would have killed anyone stand up in the UFC back then. K-1 just doesen't have that hype and anticipation for me to put it above boxing, but if it suddenly got it, I would consider putting it up there.

WaR DrIvEn 09-01-2010 11:59 AM

lol @ evry1 agrueing opinions.. u kno this is like a cirlce right? no matter how much u argue ur own opinion u'll nevr change sum1's mind.. Eth u do this ALOT. smh

i respect each sport, boxing has ALOT of technical shit.. all their fighters are polished basically once they come out of amatuer fighting their almost world class. it takes alot of work for them to get to the skill level they are at.
..MMA, also the same thing.. altho i think it takes more work for a MMA fighter to become world class then it does a boxer.. becuz if you actually wanab successful you needa be more then well-rounded.. thats a fact, u needa have ground n stand up abilities.

for my entertainment, i prefer MMA..i dnt watch fights to see knock-outs, unless the guys fighting are both guys who like to stand up n bang.. i watch fights to see a good fight.. granted, there are alot of stale mates, guys laying on their opponent (like Brock's 1st few fights)... but theres also alot of ground transition, ect.. ive never trained ground, i trained straight stand-up.. trust me, i love stand up.. just for me, boxing just misses sumthing so it loses my interestest, especially when u have a guys tieing up and dancing around so much.. just for me i like watching a good back n forth, which u see in boxing.. but boxing just doesnt entertain me enough.

theres no clear winner of this arguement of which is better.. if MMA goes to Boxing, the boxer will win, if boxing goes to mma, the mma fighter wins.. just how it is. its like putting a street fighting in the ring with a boxer or in the octagon with a ufc fighter.. theres no chance.

UnEtHıCaL 09-01-2010 07:03 PM

Yeah, but Lyrik, if we folloed the "Everyones a winner" style of conversation.....hell I would have like 6 posts. Yeah I do it alot, what's better than a good 'ol debate. Why the fuck you think I even started the thread?

Anyways, boxing wins!

WaR DrIvEn 09-01-2010 07:06 PM

you cnt have a debate when its opinions. DUH...
..debates involves facts.

AND, in the spirit of things.. if you've watched the latest UFC card.. you kno Boxing hasnt won anything ;)

UnEtHıCaL 09-01-2010 07:52 PM

A boxer got defeated in every aspect he never trained, it was a major shocker alright.

James Toney would KO Couture in like 3 punches, as far as I'm conserned, that makes him the better fighter, not the fact that he has little girls legs.

I could KO a midget in 1 punch, I didn't though....or at least I won't again. Poor stumpy.

WaR DrIvEn 09-01-2010 08:15 PM

lol, stumpy had it comin to him tho... always talkin down to you n shit...

pUL5e 09-01-2010 08:16 PM

MMA.

Boxing ends in a few ways...DQ, KO, TKO, Decision.

MMA ends in those same ways...lets not forget Submissions.. Arm bars, triangles, chokes...High kicks for the KO...

Boxing only has a few entertaining boxers to watch. Everyone's looking forward to Mayweather v Pacquiao. It's like there's only 2-3 exciting fights a year. Half of the time they dance around the ring and lean on each other because they're so gassed after 6 rounds, its just fucking boring after that. There are cases where boxers have good conditioning and can give a really really solid 12 round fight, but its rare...

Not to say MMA fighters don't get tired. They do. But you can expect a heavy punch to be thrown round 3 or round 5 of the fight. Maybe even a surprising reversal or submission that gives you fucking goosebumps like "How did he just pull that shit off?"

& There are many more entertaining fights/yr and characters to look out for. Silva, Shogun, Machida, Penn, Lesner, Carwin, Thiago, etc etc etc...All fought this year. That's just off the top off my head. The last few UFC events had great main events & the outcome in that last Anderson Silva fight(yeah i'm a big fan...) was fucking crazy.

But let's say there's a huge boxing match the same day of a huge UFC match. Like a Cotto vs Hatton going on while Shogun fights Machida... You can guarantee i'll be tuned into the boxing match only because great fights aren't even a handful a year in the sport of boxing..

Chester Waterman 09-01-2010 08:20 PM

Pulse, I have over 50 fights this year that have been exciting boxing fights that I can show you. I'm really into that prospect shit so I see alot more than the big fights.

The one thing you are picking at though, I agree with. Stupid boxing faggots like Mayweather ruin the sport by not just going into the ring. They dodge the big battles to get more money from them, while UFC fighters just do what they need to do and step into the octagon.

UFC fighters have more heart and determination, but I still prefer the complete stand up action of boxing. I watch very few fights where clinching and tired boxers dominate. Thats some weak heavyweight shit, while I stay tuned into the welterweight constant action type of stuff.

WaR DrIvEn 09-01-2010 08:22 PM

word ^^ in any fighting sport, the lower you go in the ranks.. i find the more enteraining.. just becuz the guys dnt get gassed.. example: i LOVE watching clay guida fight, he's not a HUGE finisher of fights, but DAYUM.. that boy can go 5 rounds n STILL WANA GO MORE!! ya kno.. theres more like him, but just as you said that he popped into my head.

Chester Waterman 09-01-2010 08:24 PM

I do actually really like watching Clay fight too. I saw him in like strikeforce or something a while back before on UFC, and I liked his crazyness and how he could keep going long.

WaR DrIvEn 09-01-2010 08:26 PM

word, if the guy culd finish fights better. he wuld be a favorite for me.

Chester Waterman 09-01-2010 08:28 PM

He finished the fight I saw him in I think so I think he's sick lol.

Machida is up there in my favourites.

WaR DrIvEn 09-01-2010 08:48 PM

machida's good, i like silva.. guys a level beyond erry1. also a fav. is GSP.. not juss im canadian tho.. becuz he dominates his opponents aswell. i got more, but those r stand out guys... grey maynard vs frankie edgar will be a good fight... both wrestlers n their stand up is boxing.. i favor. frankie on the stand up n grey on the ground, juss cz he's stronger n bigger.
shuld b a half decent fight.

Get the fuck out. There's only 2-3 Blockbuster fights a YEAR. If even that. There might be 50 exciting fights but its a bunch of nobodies. Ya know. What im saying is UFC is full of huge names. Idk, maybe they're more hyped than boxers but thats how it is to me.

I actually disrespected Anderson Silva in this thread. Man the last four years have been so fucking different. Dude has been my screen saver for over a year now.

Why did I say that Machida Vs Evans was one of the best fights in UFC ever?

Fuck 18 year old me!

Boxing. It's pure and focused.

Watching MMA is like watching a jack of all trades but a master of none.

Watching an MMA fighter try to throw a punch makes me think "I could be watching boxing right now"

Watching an MMA fighter try and throw a kick makes me think "I could be watching a Tony Jaa movie right now"

Watching an MMA fighter try to grapple, suplex and roll around the floor for a submission in tiny pants makes me think "I could be watching wrestling right now but I'm not 12"

Then I watch Khan dismantle Alexander with amazing hand speed and technique and I think "wow"

With the Tony Jaa reference, that's like me saying "I could be watching a Rocky film right now".

The lack of any decent opponents fighting each other in boxing has completely turned me off of it.

Include the fact that in the past so many years, they've not had the fights UFC has (Bigfoot Vs Hunt, Hendo Vs Shogun, Sanchez Vs Gilbert etc.), MMA has become waaaaaaaaaay out in front for me.

J u s T C 12-17-2014 01:20 PM

No because Rocky doesn't look anywhere near as good as a quality boxer/boxers putting their craft to work.

Where as an MMA fighter doesn't look anywhere near as smooth as skillful as Jaa kicking the shit out of a bunch of goons.

Tony Jaa doesn't look as quality as MMA fighters because you can obviously tell it's a choreographed move. You don't see the connection of the shot.

If you don't think there are clean and amazing looking techniques in MMA, he's some gifs from one year in UFC.

I don't. I just think MMA is over rated. If it came to fighting a quality lightweight boxer or a quality LW MMA fighter in the street I'd obviously take my chances with the boxer. But I'd much rather watch the former.

Fighters like Rigendoux for example technically put these guys to shame.
