Unbanning all undesirable characters who we've weeded out over time isn't a path to activity, its kind of like releasing your prison population because your town doesnt have enough people in it.

With that being said, the banning system weeds people out for some things that arent as bad as others. If you bit enough to be perma banned why the fuck would we want you back? If you trolled the staff with annoying bullshit I don't really care as much. but even rohaan is different than that, he's a serial social demolitionist who can't exist without being involved in fucking someone or something over.

Sure, there are a number of people we could unban for activity reasons, but this should be solely about rant before it turns into "lets get anarchist and rohaan back online guys" and I ghost with shodan.

Our problem is we ban everyone that comes onto the damn site. Even if they bite or self vote, no one told these guys the rules. We gotta teach them that it’s not tolerated, not bam them on sight. And when I say LOTS of people get banned for biting and they’re new dudes.... LOTS OF THEM. This site could actually be doing something if we just stop banning people for not knowing the rules and teach them.

It's been years since I signed up but new accounts should get an auto-PM with links to rules and tutorials to get them started.

You gotta ban for biting...you know in all walks of life not to copy someone else's work...but some of the biting bans might be too much, especially people clowning posting mainstream shit instead of using it to gain a competitive advantage.

This is true but you may get a lot of dudes who come on here that don’t think like us. If we encourage them to write their own stuff then they might stay active but if we ban just because they bit and they’re brand spanking new to any form of rap battling, probably some nerdy kid who thought about spitting and decided to use some Eminem lines.. he doesn’t necessarily deserve a ban.. he don’t find it a problem. He just need us to shape him up.

I think you missed the comparison, it isn't that murder and biting on letsbeef are equatable, It's that coming into a group with a system of rules and using "I just don't take as seriously as you do" isnt really a valid excuse. the court analogy was supposed to be a descriptor of that sentiment.

In reality I think both shodan & punk have correct points. Unbanning the people who only got banned for unimportant reasons could have positive effects on activity, but unbanning all the shit cunts we removed for a reason could also just muddy that activity further. Just blanket unbanning everyone is not the best idea in my opinion. If anything, this should be done like it is with Rant in this very thread, which is in a case-by-case basis so you can review if it really affects the community in a bad way to have the person back

I didn't miss the comparison and I get the analogy. Its just certain rules in certain environments don't garner the same respect as others. A couple years back, there was a kid banned for biting the theme song to the fresh prince of bel air. Did he really need to be banned? Shit wasn't hurting nobody, the snipers were getting auto wins and people got mad laughs out of it....but technically he bit so the ban went in place. idk..sometimes the rules being taken too literally and too seriously can take the fun out for folks who don't take LetsBeef as seriously as others.
