I don't think a public poll is a good way to select mods because then it becomes a popularity contest and you never know all the reasons why someone is popular with all the people they are popular with. Some people feel beholden to others for various reasons (former crew-mate, secret ghostwriter, etc.) or may end up feeling beholden to others when they help get them the nod in such a popularity contest. Of course it's a good thing for a prospective mod to be popular with the community...and community input is important in selecting who's going to run shit around here. But public input has always been taken into consideration..from people saying #rant4mod or #punk4mod, and now #babylon4mod. I feel like if we turn in into an explicit poll, it could open the floodgates to potential bullshit we may not necessarily want.
