Co-Sign @Phil Banks tbh. . . ''dope punch, but the setups were not relevant'' . . . .I like the wow Didn't see that coming punch, which is tricky if your setups are all foreshadowing to it IMO. But yeah @SpookyDeep concepts are the punch, you either have weak or strong concepts I think. To me (let me know what ya'll think) it should go
Concept
Wording/Vocab
Flow
Wordplay
Multies

Your concept should build to the punch. Although a concept can be dope on it's own if it's worded well, too many people (I've been guilty of this in the past) drag out a cool concept to the point where it becomes a wasted bar.

A lot of it is down to lazy editing and people letting egos dictate verses, rather than being self-critical, sacrificing impact for nothing more than a neat idea.

Dude I've been guilty too but never again...& never will judge in favor of that shit again

What are we even arguing about here?

A concept and a punchlines go hand and hand you can't have one without the other so why the comparison?

Spooky Deep 11-16-2012 02:54 PM

Nigga this is the problem I have being educated (beyond being an educated voter...I mean literaly fuckin educated) & actually understanding grammar terms...I could swear reading comprehension sucks on here & if you detect a sense of arrogance or anything like that you way off...

The sad thing about it is...I broke this shit down clearly and motherfuckas is still dumbfounded

With that said...

Of course concepts and punches are SUPPOSED to go together -I'm not pitting them against each other READ

'blah blah blah' like unfunny ass creative object

That's 98% of bars from people even folks considered the best on this site...

and under that assumption

'blah blah blah' is the concept right?

& 'unfunny ass creative object' is the punch, follow me?

My beef is how can an unfunny ass creative object be a punch

i.e. let's break down someone's bar just for more help folks

let em face a-round when I put his 'face, around one' like Washington ON-THE-DOLLAR-IS!!!
-reEFer

'face, around one' is the concept

& 'like Washington ON-THE-DOLLAR-IS' is the unfunny ass creative object

You see how the object is not really a punch...it's just naming something & the concept is the only thing KINDA nice about it

Which brings me to my main issue...there are so many battles (especially scheme battles) filled up wit this bullshit & people sit back & marvel at this shit

the same DRIVE IN ATTACKERS you the 'type to get-whip'd-for-lookin-at me-boy'...like a "slave"-'EYE'N THE MASTER'!!!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^dude, you talkin bout concepts vs. punches? like you a lyrical scholar, yet you droppin simple ass similes 'like' this? no pun intended.. come on now son.. peepd ya battles, you basically pullin the same ish.. that your bashing fam.. in text, its a bit harder to get a reaction from a clever punchline that doesnt utilize a typical 'concept' to flippin the concept arangement as you would in a live battle... where you can insinuate a quip and draw from a crowd reaction.. texting is basically who can throw the cleverest 'relation' to puns, metas or simile.. while keeping a good scheme, structure and flow..very few can pull off 'true punchlines' in this type of battling format..
