What I hate about karate too is that hand on your side shit when you're doing techniques or kata. Doing techniques is all about muscle memory, so it can help when actually in a fight or competiton. Putting your hand by your side is awful for muscle memory because it will let you leave one of your hands down when throwing. The worst thing is the stand. One hand on your solar plexis and the other straight out. I mean, I know karate doesnt have any hooks but they should at least take it into account.

Yeah, you see there are different styles of fighting & for each a different method of teaching. When doing the Kata's/Patterns i do them Open Palm/Knife Handed... But when "Sparring" i keep the hands lightly closed. So if a kicks coming you can block with out braking a finger... trying to punch with a broke hand isn't nice lol..
Ahhhh, that whole hand by your side ish... man lol the "Keep you shoulders parallel, one arm extended to face and the other hand twisted on the hip" in a triangle motion shit lol... yeah, thats not going get you any where in a real life situation... shit, you wouldn't use it in a Karate competition lol...
