Expos: forgotten tag. Legion of doom was a. Tag team. Manhattan, 9-11. Twin towers fell in New York after a foreign attack. And Old English battled Rai.

Rai & Manny -

Straight off the bat, zero points for uncreative American sports bar lines. Dunno how many times I have to read the exact same shit. Whether it's lines, putting the 9 on my back, whatever. I don't watch your boring sports, you don't watch mine. I don't wanna have to learn who the fuck plays American handegg or touch ball throw and you don't wanna learn who Clay Guida or Dominick Reyes are. So zero points.

Pretty ashamed I didn't get the fast break line. I think while the multis to deliver the punch were impressive, they maybe took the punch out of my mind a little bit and may have been put on a little thick. Good idea though.

Has to google Kubrick, which again annoyed me. Are directors really well known enough to not even drop a first name? This didn't hit for me because of the obscure reference....also because stricc was never in ACs (So two dude's currently in LoD thought Stricc was in ACs? da fuck? haha)

I have two problems with the Earnhardt line. This is like the 5 line and I think I've got one thing fully without googling. Oh what does the guy do for a living? Oh fun an American sports star. Nice one an entire verse of obscure nation-specific sportspeople. Fun. Can't wait to write a verse about Alfredo Morales Vs French Eddy. Zero points.

The rhyming at the end was really really dope, but it's not a scheme battle. These punches on their own aren't killers, they only earn big because of the skill involved in crafting them. For a big ass tag team battle, the bars have to stand on their own as well.

Quick expo...

1. They key on a basketball court the the 3 point range, top of it to be exact. Robert Horry is a basketball legend who goes by big shot. Vat is a fryer. If you were to slip on oozing oil you could collect gwop(obviously a typo but is slang for  money) by suing the company you work for.

Auto & Biz -

Cut that first multi down big time. No need to try and force it to be that big. Let the rhymes remain simple. Punch was an okay idea but it was a little big struggley to get to it. Struggley, yeah, I said that.

LoD isn't forgotten, they are literally one of the most well known tag teams in professional wrestling history. This line may do a little more damage to others, but as I literally ran a crew called Legion of Doom based on the tag team a year before LoD v2 was made, it doesn't feel like a big revelation or flip.

Waaaay too many words in between rhymes with no genius / old english. If you're going to stretch that out, you need to chuck in some internal multis to keep the flow going. Concept didn't really click as old english isn't a class in school.

Second hand smoke ya is a really dope idea, but I feel that the "kids environment" ending wasn't the best way to deliver it. Decent line though.

I didn't need to think of the 9-11 line. It wasn't that deep. It's okay I guess but the root of the entire line is "I'll fly a plane at you like 9-11 cause your name is Manhattan" which is nothing specifically creative.

Body in a box like homeless vets was a specifically good idea. I don't know why i've never heard such a really simple way to deliver that concept which was nice. I think you overdid it with the lost the arms to shoot led, again with this running up space between the rhymes killing the flow a little.

Man extremely close battle.

Clearly Rai and Manny are the better, more technically proficient writers, but when about 50% of the verse is based on American sports personalities that I've never heard of, what am I supposed to enjoy? Sure, I'm from a different place from you. But I can't just write about shit only me and RULE would get. You need to think of the landscape and if you don't, you risk votes coming in from guys exactly like me.

Auto and Biz had a fairly amateurish feel to their verse with some technical flaws, but I definitely enjoyed it more.

At the end of the day, enjoying the verse is what it's all about. So I'll likely be the only one voting this way as Rai and Manny are clearly the much, much better at crafting lines, I just preferred Biz and Auto so I vote that way.

Expo: Stanley Kubrick helped nasa fake the moon landing...or so the conspiracy theory goes

Posted on: 2019-12-09 21:36:41 Private Message Manhattan

This took me a few reads to be sure on, overall I think this was a close-but-clear battle.

Rai & Manhattan, your verse here was full of a lot of references I didn't really get until the expo, but the punches seemed clean and well-set-up. Scheming your verse was a risk, and while it did add some nice consistency, overall I think you would have been better to try more variety. One of the key features of tag battles is that verses often have two contrasting styles alongside each other, for instance quick jabs alternating with long haymakers. Putting all of this in one scheme made it all kind of merge together a bit, and you lost the chance to show off your two distinct skills coming together. Nonetheless this was a solid verse with some hard-hitting punches, but also some punches that weren't very clear or where the wording seemed a bit forced (i.e. "risk solving a gruesome task"), which meant the verse could be a bit hit-and-miss at times.

Autograph & BizzyOne, I thought your opener was a contender for bar of the battle. It wasn't the most original concept, but it was executed very cleanly and the multis didn't seem forced at all. The next portion of your verse flowed really well and was a nice contrast in styles, and overall your verse from that point was a series of well-executed jabs with simple concepts, and clever concepts that weren't executed cleanly enough to be knockout blows. An example is the 9-11 punch, "slayed foreign action" doesn't make sense so the wordplay doesn't work for me, so despite the fact it was a cool idea with a lot going for it, it didn't hit as hard as it could have.

Overall, I thought one verse was more hit-and-miss and one verse was more consistent. Both sides made careless mistakes that could really cost you in later rounds (and for one of you, obviously did cost you in this round). Good luck to both teams going forward in the tourney!

Another Expo: Stanley Kubrick helped nasa fake the moon landing...or so the conspiracy theory goes, also "Its A Wonderful Life" is an old movie and at one point during the movie, the main character says hell lasso the moon for his girl.

This is a pretty good battle all the way around. With some highlights from both, and some flaws on both sides as well. Some of those highlights included the house cleaning theme, and the 9/11 theme. Though, Rai and Manhattan had some noticeable wording issues throughout their verse, in regard to some of their multi choices, overall though had some really solid concepts. Auto and Bizz you had a really cohesive verse, with some excellent concepts as well. And fewer, at least to me, wording issues overall. However, the Old English line just didn't feel up to the standard of any of the rest of the material on either side. And that's what was really my deciding factor here. The overall consistency of both competitors of the team. 7-8.

I felt one team landed punches more consistently here throughout. They had a lot of fresh concepts I haven't seen before. The other team had some concepts that fell flat to me and seemed like simple flips. They had a couple of solid hits though.
