I'm probably not the best person to ask. I'm neither white nor a Southerner. I've heard from people who cherish the flag that it's a symbol of Southern heritage and history and not necessarily racism. My views on it are different though.

The south wanted to succeed from the union and become their own country. They would have kept slavery and continued to have an economy dependent on it.

I think even if you take race out of it or how it may offend Black people, as an American, the Confederate flag is kinda treasonous in the sense that it came about when the South was trying to break away and form its own country. They had elected their own president (Jefferson Davis), issued their own currency and formed martial alliances with other nations. To still wave the flag of a region which was meant to become a separate country is "anti-American."
