Unfortunately, these days I rate battles by mentally giving out 5's and 6's and leaving the site disappointed.

Only a handful of people get busy enough to earn 8's and 9's regularly, maybe an occasional 10.

I've seen cases where the shittiest battlers rate top tier battlers a 6 or 7..& expect nothing less than a 7 on their shit or its a hate vote.

It definitely takes away from the performance aspect of an audio battle and makes me consider whether or not a battler has the capacity to spit the shit they wrote confidently and accurately. However, if someone were to punch in, but did it damn near flawlessly, there would be a lot of finger pointing as to whether or not the person did it or not which would create some chaos.

I'd think the only way to get rid of all of this and make it pure "one take" vs "one take" is to get rid of uploading vocals, but that gets rid of a lot of other beneficial tools at the same time and could lessen the quality of battles that we hear. If you have a trash ass mic, but are able to tweak a few things with your audio to make it sound cleaner so I can hear it better to vote then by all means do it. But to allow uploading and at the same time, with regards to editing, say "_____ is prohibited but _____ is allowed" is walking a fine line.

Agree w/ uploading verses, especially in a Tournament battle with more at stake, you'd ideally want to be able to put out your best "take", if it's a complete freestyle or live battle then it's different but definitely should be left for written battles.


Also @ OP, depends on the battle but I try to write a small break down to why I voted the way I did, agree w/ Godbody about people getting 6's & 7's they don't deserve, I'm hesitant to hand out 8's+ BUT I also try to account for the times, some 8's now wouldn't fly in 2007 but that was 15 years ago and the talent overall as grown too, some people were getting pure 9's & 10's back then too who didn't deserve them either.

That's more than facts. I've tweaked the way I write just to please the crowd with more punches... then they say, "well, Phroxen had non stop punches and they were dope but there were just too many punches back to back to back..." Like motherfuckers, make up your mind.

I like that it kinda puts a little pressure on you, when you fuck up, by having to re-do everything, makes you wanna get it right the first time. Honestly probably makes the rapper a better rapper, but learning breath control etc.
