You're probably right. I agree with religion being a major problem in general, I just don't think it's in any way just to lambaste an entire following based on the few who use it to fuel war, hatred and oneupmanship. (I know you're not justifying this in any way)
That's the problem I have with atheism; it's the portion of atheists - as with all ideologies, groups and religions - that insist on belittling and bashing the beliefs and opinions of others.

But thats the same with everything. It's like Fifa fan boys flaming Pro Evo fan boys. It's just human nature. assholes will be assholes, the greedy will be greedy.the religion/belief/the game/the sport is just the platform and anything can be used as a platform for people to spread lies, hatred and bash. most athiests just live their lives. just as most muslims don't promote terrorism. But man would the world be better off if everyone just lived their lives.

Let it be known that I am not religious; probably Atheist if I HAD to choose; even then I prefer to detach myself from any particular sect out of a desire to explore the area in a lot more depth before potentially dedicating my entire faith to something.
This shit really bugs me. Atheism itself is inheriting all the darker traits of traditional religion; hatred and the belittling of the beliefs of others. So many Atheists think believing in nothing and basing faith in scientific fact/abstinence immediately makes them smarter and better people than, say, someone who goes to church every Sunday and lives by the bible; Atheists (generally speaking) seem to think this entitles them to mock, ridicule or lambaste followers of the historic religions based on the sectarian and discriminatory facets therein. It's a real shame that they can't see how hypocritical that is.
There's an extremely fine line between Atheism and adopting a sectarian attitude - masked in 'knowledge' and 'facts' - towards others based on what they believe. Nobody should be made to feel persecuted for what they believe in.
|
I think what you mean is iconoclasm. An atheist doesn't necessarily inherit the darker traits or traditional religion, as you put it, but an iconoclast, someone who wears their disregard for traditional religions on their sleeve, does.
And the Prophet Muhammad WAS a pedophile if we judge him by today's standards. As Thug has said, he married Aisha when she was 6 and "consummated" the marriage, which may be interpreted to mean he had sex with her, when she was 9. That's written in the Quran and me saying that isn't to disrespect Islam. It's simply saying ANYONE who sleeps with a 9 year old qualifies as a pedophile by my standards.

But yea, I've came across a lot of atheists who are also iconoclasts.

@ Fidel Z , nah homie I'm not saying Islamic people all beat their wives… thats totally not true. Yet, some of the Islamic scriptures (just as all antiquated religious scriptures) say some crazy things…. as @ IamThugBro and @ Crysis have supported with evidence.
The Torah and Bible say equally crazy ideas about people getting struck down for all sorts of things… Got to take it with a grain of salt.
I do believe that the traditions of wife beating in Islam has had a negative affect on Islamic women throughout history…. but not all of them… I'm sure there are good Islamic husbands out there.
Peace

If we define atheism as a belief system concerning the nature of god's existence or non-existence, certain forms of atheism actually fit the definition of religion.
The idea that "god does not exist" is a belief...much like any other belief that hasn't been proven. No one has proved that god exists, neither has anyone proved that god does NOT exist. They're both beliefs concerning the nature of god. I'm not talking about people who simply say "I don't believe in a god"...I'm more so talking about people who say "I believe that god does not exist."

But not all atheists beleive god doesn't exist. They simply don't know and don't care. So it's not a religion.
