No, I don't believe that. I'm not arguing against your theory. I'm just saying I don't think the fact that something doesn't make sense is a good enough premise to conclude that it must not have happened. Neither Brexit nor a Trump presidency make much sense from where I'm standing, yet they have both occurred. If he's done it before (chemical bombing), why is it so far-fetched that he would do it again? Sure it makes him look like a total ass....but it was bound to make him look like a total ass the first time and he still did it. The difference between then and now is he has Russian support on the ground. Maybe it emboldened him somehow and he thought Donald Trump would stay out of it since he's chummy with Putin and had spoken against American interventions on the campaign trail. Maybe he thought America wouldn't find out. You might also be right that Assad had nothing to do with it. That's why I said earlier that Trump should have waited for an international investigation...so that way, it's not only the United States saying Assad used chemical bombs--but also independent investigators from other countries. If the U.S. is going to try to police the world, they should do so only with the cooperation of other nations rather than acting unilaterally.
