X doesn't see LB as profitable, so hiring a team of coders wouldn't be economical. Making LB open source will absolutely mean people will just make a copycat site.

The issue is that X puts $250 into every tournament, so we're talking $500-1000 in prizes alone, before server costs. LB turns no profit and loses money, so financially it isn't worth anything. It wouldn't be worth buying for $1000, but it also doesn't make sense for X to give it away for less based on his frequent investment.

X doesn't have the time or resources to really improve LB or make big changes. He can do a small bit here or there but we're not going to become everything we want LB to be.

So either things continue at this rate until we ultimately close within the next 3-5 years, or someone with more money than sense buys LB for way above it's actual value. The actual users running tournaments or voting isn't going to change any of this.

So just for Gutz, I've crunched the numbers.

New Accounts in March

177 New Accounts
53 Interacted with the Site
158 Battles
16 Logged on in April
24 Left after first battle
4 Posted on Forums
1 Banned
1 Deleted
6 Have Open Battles

Bare in mind I haven't counted things like someone leaving after spitting 3 battles at one time or multi accounts etc. so these stats are more positive than they should be.

Analysis
29.9% of new accounts had any interaction.
45.2% of accounts that interacted left after just one battle.
69.9% of accounts that interacted never logged in by April.
96.6% of new accounts in March don't have a battle opened.

If you think it's the user's fault that the site is dying, show me numbers to support it. If these numbers were to continue, only 6 battlers will be actively battling a month after joining. If we ran the long term numbers, I'd imagine 1 or 2 at the absolute maximum are battling 6 months later. How can the site possibly sustain if at most we get 1 or 2 long term members per month? We lose more than 1 or 2 long term members per month.
