If the joke is hilarious but not delivered with the same kind of conviction, it's obviously not gonna be hilarious, maybe make people laugh a little, but it's still better than delivering something that just isn't funny at all.

Tim Vine made an entire career out of abysmal dad jokes and he's funny as fuck.
