Yeah no one should be voting on any battles based on the quality of the recording. It should be based on how much better or worse one was against the other skill-wise. Unless the quality is so bad that you can't even make out what one is saying, then that's another story.
As far as the volume drop issue goes. I have yet to notice it. Have you noticed it in only your battles or do you notice it in other battles too? It may just be a vbulletin software-related issue.
