This is a good idea which has been proposed a few times before; ultimately I think it ended up being too much of a logistical challenge to get to work properly.
One possible alternative is anonymous tournaments, where all the battlers submit their verses to a host who posts them on their behalf so no one can tell whose is whose. Thus far it’s only been done with topicals, but I think the idea could be trialled with standard battles?
