Default How come we don't welcome new members?

I see a lot of complaining about how the membership is low and there isn't much activity. There's a lot that we (everyone) could be doing to change that. Advertising the site to other sites is more of the owners' responsibility, but regular members can help out by hitting up new members and making them feel welcomed right away. If you look in the Welcome Forum, we still get about 5 new users each day---and these are just the ones that are confirmed. More users than that register each day but the Welcome Forum only shows the ones who have activated their account through the confirmation email that is sent to them. At 5 new users per day, that's 35 new members per week, 140 new members per month and 1,820 new users per year! Does it feel like we're gaining 1,820 new users per year? I don't think so...but we are having that many confirmed new users so obviously a lot of them are not sticking around. I'm just saying we can all help that by hitting up the new members and making them feel welcomed right away, that's all. It makes very little sense to complain about something and not do what one can to remedy it. Welcoming members may not be as impactful as advertising, fixing bugs, adding new features and all the other changes we need to make, but it does help and it is something we can all do and don't have to wait on anyone else to do.
